Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers revealed on Cam Heyward\u2019s Not Just Football<\/a> podcast that he sent a strong message to the offensive line at the early portion of training camp after fourth-string quarterback Skylar Thompson got knocked down. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd one thing, one really important moment, Skylar got knocked down early in camp. And I walked out there like, \u2018What the hell just happened?\u2019 I looked back and nobody was walking out there. And I told the line, \u2018Don\u2019t you ever let that happen again,’\u201d Rodgers said. <\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018We gotta protect each other. And you guys are the policemen out there on the field. You\u2019re the big brothers out there. You protect everybody from DK [Metcalf] to me to whoever\u2019s in there (at) quarterback or whoever\u2019s in there (at) running back. I don\u2019t care if it\u2019s preseason practice, whatever. You gotta protect them.\u201d <\/p>\n

Rodgers said the message registered with the offensive line and it did not happen again. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe next time something happened about a week later, Zach [Frazier] was in there. Pat [Freiermuth] was in there,\u201d Rodgers said. \u201cIf Zach\u2019s in there, you know Mason [McCormick\u2019s] in there. And then I saw Troy [Fautanu] going in there. And then Spencer [Anderson]. I was like, \u2018That\u2019s what it looks like.\u2019 And I\u2019m not talking about instigating fights. I\u2019m just talking about backing your brothers up.\u201d <\/p>\n

During his media availability on Monday, Steelers left tackle Broderick Jones explained what it\u2019s like working with the 41-year-old quarterback and his relationship. Outside of left guard Isaac Seumalo, the rest of the starting offensive line are in their early twenties. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a love\/hate relationship at the same time. Because sometimes he\u2019s playing, but not everybody\u2019s on the same page,\u201d Jones explained. \u201cBut it\u2019s also good to have that bond within to have the understanding, \u2018OK, he\u2019s a vet. I know everything, let me make sure everybody else is good and then we carry on with whatever is going on, whatever the situation was.\u2019 Just things like that. But I feel like he has a good sense of who he is and who we\u2019re trying to be and getting us where we\u2019re trying to go.\u201d <\/p>\n
