Todd McShay believes Garrett Nussmeier<\/a> is one of the top quarterback prospects slated to be available for the 2026 NFL Draft<\/a>. Ahead of the 2025 college football season getting underway, he has him in Tier 1 of all signal-callers. <\/p>\n

The NFL Draft analyst waxed poetic about Nussmeier, although he\u2019s a bit concerned about his knee. Regardless, the quarterback\u2019s intangibles have McShay comparing the LSU<\/a> star to a former top overall pick at the next level.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really excited to see Garrett Nussmeier this year,\u201d McShay proclaimed, via The McShay Show<\/a>. \u201cIt bums me out when quarterbacks come into the season with like, a little bit of a cloud, \u2018He\u2019s got this tendonitis in his knee,\u2019 and it\u2019s a recurring problem. Maybe that\u2019s why he looked like he wore down over the course of last season, not just because there was no run game. It was an atrocious run game, and he had to carry that team. (He\u2019s) undersized. \u2026\u00a0 Going off of the tape and seeing his ability to anticipate throws and his timing, the way he carries, the dude\u2019s Baker Mayfield<\/a>, man. <\/p>\n

\u201cJust the urgency he plays with, how much he trusts his arm, even to a fault sometimes. We want to see him find that sweet spot. He just plays the game with a knack. His dad, obviously, is a quarterback coach. He was a quarterback in the NFL. Quarterback coach for a long time. Now, he\u2019s the offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints. It\u2019s in his blood, right? It\u2019s in his DNA, raging through his bloodstream. You can see it when he plays the game with a level of confidence and understanding and instincts that none of these other guys do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alas, Nussmeier\u2019s talent is obvious, but it\u2019s his mental makeup that has McShay more excited than anything: \u201cYou want to be around this guy,\u201d he added. \u201cWhether it was basketball, baseball, football, everyone knows that guy. You know what I mean? \u2018I want to be around Nuss.\u2019 (He\u2019s a) gamer. Just like, he\u2019s got this, you know what I mean? Like, he\u2019s got it. Every team that\u2019s good has that. It\u2019s tough to describe, but he fits that. <\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I\u2019m excited, but I\u2019m also like, I hope it all comes together, because he\u2019s so good and he\u2019s got all the things you look for, but I also say this, recognizing he\u2019s not as big as Drew Allar<\/a>. He has a good arm, but it\u2019s not like it\u2019s not like Allar\u2019s or some other guys. He\u2019s not as mobile. Certainly no one\u2019s as mobile as [LaNorris] Sellers<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cSo, there\u2019s going to be people inside each draft room that are like, \u2018I\u2019m just not quite as much a Nuss guy.\u2019 I like him. I can see the late first (round).\u00a0 He\u2019s fascinating, but I\u2019ve got him No. 2 there in the Tier One.\u201d<\/p>\n

All told, Todd McShay has a lot of love for Garrett Nussmeier, and for good reason. It won\u2019t take long to see the LSU star tested, as they\u2019ll face Clemson in Week 1. That could send his draft stock into the stratosphere.
