Rounding into his sixth season in the saddle for the Miami Dolphins, Tua Tagovailoa\u2019s future isn\u2019t set in stone. The Ringer\u2019s Ryen Russillo and The Athletic\u2019s Mike Sando discussed the former Alabama Crimson Tide<\/a> quarterback\u2019s situation last week on the former\u2019s podcast.<\/p>\n

Tagovailoa<\/a> led the NFL in passing yardage in 2023, the only campaign he\u2019s been fully healthy. He suffered multiple concussions in 2022 and missed four games last go-round with one. While he\u2019s shown glimpses of being the guy, those ailments have hampered his ability to cement himself as the Dolphins\u2019 long-term answer.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like, \u2018If it\u2019s on schedule, everything\u2019s rolling. His accuracy is so special that it looks really good,\u2019\u201d Russillo said<\/a>. \u201cI think all of us know this now that have watched it. As soon as it\u2019s off-script, you\u2019re like, \u2018Uh, what\u2019s gonna happen now?\u2019 And that\u2019s where the problems start.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sando tabbed Tagovailoa as the No. 17 passer in the league in his recent rankings, tabulated by NFL coaches and executives. Tagovailoa is 38-24 as a starter and has only played one postseason game.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a big hit away from maybe not playing anymore,\u201d Sando said. \u201cI think that\u2019s why he got two (votes for the fourth tier). There\u2019s some people who think, \u2018I think the end\u2019s nearing. It\u2019s a miracle he\u2019s made it this far.\u2019 So hopefully that\u2019s not the case. Hopefully he can stay healthy, but they\u2019re really at a crossroads. They\u2019ve kinda paid him, gone all in, pretty much, spending the last few years and then really haven\u2019t had a lot to show for it.\u201d<\/p>\n
