Brock Purdy<\/a> might finally be getting his due on on the field, but the 49ers superstar still is underrated in fantasy football circles according to industry expert Matthew Berry<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During an interview with NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco on “49ers Talk,” Berry explained why Purdy is among the best values for fantasy football managers entering the 2025 NFL season.<\/p>\n

“Brock Purdy is perennially underrated, especially from a fantasy football perspective,” Berry told Maiocco. “Now, he doesn’t run. If you look at the top of the fantasy football leaderboards at quarterback, it’s guys that are mobile. It’s the Josh Allen, Jayden Daniels, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts of the world. Because the 49ers have such a good defense, Brock tends to not get into these shootouts. Like I have Joe Burrow at No. 5, Joe Burrow also doesn’t run, but Joe Burrow might have to throw the ball 50 times a game the way that Bengals defense is looking right now.”<\/p>\n

Volume is key in fantasy football, and despite having elite efficiency, Purdy has seen him ceiling limited at times due to San Francisco’s strong running game and stout defense.<\/p>\n

“Purdy has the benefit of a run game behind him and a really good defense as well. So, he doesn’t have to throw a lot and he doesn’t particularly run,” Berry explained. “That said, Brock Purdy last year was the ninth-best quarterback in fantasy football on a points-per-game basis. In fact, in his two full seasons as a starter, he has always been a top-10 guy. He leads all quarterbacks in yards per attempt over that stretch, he’s second in fantasy points per pass attempt. When he throws, he earns fantasy points.”<\/p>\n

Purdy had just three rushing touchdowns in his first two NFL seasons, but saw a serious uptick in production after registering five touchdowns on the ground in 2024. Berry explained how the return of superstar running back Christian McCaffrey could impact Purdy’s rushing numbers, while also revealing the 49ers signal-caller ranks as a fantasy QB entering the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

It was nice to see him starting to use his legs a little bit as part of his game. He had five rushing touchdowns last year. Now, no McCaffrey, so does that come down a little bit because they do have CMC this year? We’ll see. He’s just somebody that always manages to get the ball in the right place, Kyle [Shanahan] always calls such a good game, scheming guys open for Brock, Brock runs it to perfection. A typical fantasy football league will have 12 teams, I have him as QB11. I have him as a starter in fantasy football at the quarterback position.”<\/p>\n

Purdy is coming off a season<\/a> where he threw for 3,864 yards and 20 touchdowns, adding another 323 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.<\/p>\n

If Purdy improves on those numbers, the 49ers and the fantasy managers who draft him will be in good spirits during the 2025 season.<\/p>\n
