The Bengals started their season on the right foot and christened their new home field at the P1FCU Athletic Complex with a blitz over nonleague foe Columbia of Nampa.<\/p>\n
The duo of Avery Lathen and Brynn Wimer combined for three scoring plays, with Wimer assisting Lathen on the opening goal of the contest in the 11th minute before Lathen returned the favor for Wimer\u2019s two conversions. Lathen, who also spent time goalkeeping and registered one save, would go on to bookend Bengal scoring with a goal in the 75th minute off a Kate Antonich assist.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was just a great team effort, and our defense really stood out, not allowing any shooting opportunities, really,\u201d Lewiston coach Scott Wimer said. \u201cColumbia has some really good speed and some talented players, but our defense did a fantastic job of shutting them down and not letting them take very many shots.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both Lewis-Clark State cross country teams are entering the fall season ranked among the NAIA\u2019s top 20, with the men at No. 15 and the women at 16 in preseason coaches\u2019 polling.<\/p>\n
The Warrior women were picked to finish second in the Cascade Conference preseason poll, and the men were picked fourth. Both teams placed in the top 20 of all NAIA teams last season at the national meet, with the men in 13th and the women in 19th.<\/p>\n
LC State\u2019s women return their top four finishers from Nationals last season in Damaris Kibiwot, Grace Tiegs, Camille Ussher and Lily Bennett. The men have returning national experience from Alexander Fry, Kobe Wessels and Connor Alexander.<\/p>\n
