Shedeur Sanders<\/a> enjoyed a quality NFL debut in the Cleveland Browns<\/a>‘ 30-10 preseason Week 1 win over the Carolina Panthers. He was unable to repeat his performance in preseason Week 2.<\/p>\n

Sanders was held out of the Browns’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles because of an oblique injury. Fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel<\/a> was instead given an extended run with the starters while fellow members of Cleveland’s quarterback competition, Joe Flacco<\/a> and Kenny Pickett<\/a>, sat out the game.<\/p>\n

Will Sanders get back on the field for preseason Week 3 against the Los Angeles Rams<\/a>? The Browns don’t have a major incentive to rush him back into action after naming Flacco the Week 1 starter<\/a>, but they will look to give him some reps on Saturday.<\/p>\n

That is, as long as his oblique holds up. Cleveland’s front office and coaching staff may like to get one more look at the Colorado product, especially as the team prepares to decide which quarterbacks to keep on its 53-man roster.<\/p>\n

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski unveiled Cleveland’s order of operations for quarterback on Saturday: Joe Flacco will start, with Dillon Gabriel relieving him and Sanders rounding out the rotation.<\/p>\n

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski did not announce the rookie’s absence from the team’s second preseason game until Thursday, Aug. 14. That was two days before their matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles and one day after the rookie initially suffered an oblique injury at practice.<\/p>\n

“If it’s a right guard, you can play through that,” Stefanski said of Sanders’ injury<\/a>. “When it’s a quarterback, you kind of need that muscle to throw. So unfortunately we’re going to put him down for a little bit here. We will treat it day to day and see how he responds. But we want to be smart. He’s a thrower so you can’t push that thing.”<\/p>\n

With Sanders returning, fans will no longer worry about whether he will play. Instead, their focus will shift to whether the fifth-round rookie will make Cleveland’ 53-man roster.<\/p>\n
