The New York Jets<\/a> are concluding training camp and the preseason<\/a> with a concerning lack of depth at wide receiver.<\/p>\n

Veteran offseason addition Josh Reynolds appears to be the WR2 behind Garrett Wilson. Did Reynolds really earn the role, or was there a lack of realistic contenders?<\/p>\n

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini<\/a> recently reported that the Jets are among several teams looking to trade for a veteran receiver<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With roster cut-down day around the league<\/a> fast approaching this Tuesday, there should be an opportunity for the Jets to make a trade. In fact, they’ve already completed two, acquiring defensive tackles Jowon Briggs<\/a> and Harrison Phillips<\/a>.<\/p>\n

One potential opportunity the Jets should try exploring is with the Detroit Lions<\/a>. Jets first-year head coach Aaron Glenn spent time last season with veteran receiver Tim Patrick. Looking at the Lions’ depth chart, you wonder if Patrick is potentially available for trade.<\/p>\n

Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams are the clear go-to receivers in Detroit. Roster mainstay and special teams ace Kalif Raymond is still around, and the Lions drafted Isaac TeSlaa in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft. It’s within the realm of possibility that the 31-year-old Patrick is WR5, or even on the roster bubble.<\/p>\n

That role would certainly displease the experienced Patrick. In East Rutherford, he’d potentially be Justin Fields’ WR2, albeit in a run-heavy offense. Glenn knows Patrick well, and GM Darren Mougey should call the Lions to gauge their interest in trading him before Tuesday’s cut-down day.<\/p>\n
