Here\u2019s a college football story via the AP:<\/p>\n

LAS VEGAS (AP) \u2014 The Manning name goes a long way \u2014 even for college football bettors.<\/p>\n

Top-ranked Texas<\/a> is favored to win the national championship, which would be its first since Vince Young dashed into the Rose Bowl end zone two decades ago to upset Southern California.<\/p>\n

Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning is the early leader to capture the Heisman Trophy, which would be one of the rare accomplishments his famous football family has not achieved.<\/p>\n

After sitting behind Quinn Ewers for two seasons, Manning finally gets his chance to show what all the hype is about. Many bettors are buying into it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think (hype is) a big part of it,\u201d said Johnny Avello, DraftKings Sportsbook race and sports operations director. \u201cThe team has made strides to become one of the top teams in college football. (Bettors) looked at the team last year and the quarterback was OK, but I wouldn\u2019t call him the elite quarterback. So now Manning\u2019s in there, and he\u2019s got the history of all the Mannings in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n

Top-ranked Texas is the consensus favorite to win it all, though it\u2019s a crowded field. The Longhorns are +450 favorites at BetMGM Sportsbook, followed by third-ranked and defending champion Ohio State<\/a> (+525). Four other teams \u2014 No. 2 Penn State, No. 4 Clemson, No. 5 Georgia and No. 7 Oregon \u2014 are between 7-1 and 9-1.<\/p>\n

Manning also is the favorite at multiple sportsbooks to win the Heisman, including a substantial one at BetMGM at 6-1 odds. LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and Clemson QB Cade Klubnik are next at 9-1 each.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe storyline there with (Manning\u2019s) grandpa and his uncle missing out on the trophy, so I can see that storyline kind of evolving like that,\u201d CBS SportsLine handicapper Bruce Marshall said. \u201cLike, this is sort of a payback for the Mannings this year, but we just haven\u2019t seen that much of him. Should he be up there ahead of Klubnik from Clemson? I wouldn\u2019t think so, but he\u2019s there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Non-QB for the Heisman?<\/p>\n

Colorado two-way player Travis Hunter\u2019s Heisman victory<\/a> last season was a rarity. Quarterbacks had won the award 20 of the previous 24 times.<\/p>\n

Though odds are in the QBs\u2019 favor again this season \u2014 the top three play that position \u2014 Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith could get a long look. BetMGM lists him at 10-1 to take home the trophy.<\/p>\n

He has received the second-most bets at the sportsbook, behind only Manning, and Marshall said he could see Smith winning the Heisman.<\/p>\n

\u201cA big-play element,\u201d Marshall said.<\/p>\n

Predictions markets gets involved<\/p>\n

Robinhood announced Tuesday it was partnering with fellow online predictions market company Kalshi to begin accepting trades on college and professional football games.<\/p>\n

Predictions markets operate similar to the U.S. Stock Exchange in which people invest money, but critics \u2014 including those in sportsbooks \u2014 question whether it\u2019s sports betting disguised as investment. Maryland, Nevada and New Jersey have sued Kalshi, arguing it violates state sports betting laws. Native American tribes in California and Wisconsin have made similar arguments in their lawsuits.<\/p>\n

Robinhood and Kalshi contend their companies are regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.<\/p>\n

That doesn\u2019t satisfy the NCAA.<\/p>\n

\u201cSport integrity is paramount for the NCAA, and we are deeply concerned by unregulated and unprotected markets that pose a threat to competition integrity and student-athlete safety,\u201d Tim Buckley, NCAA senior vice president of external affairs, said in a statement. \u201dWe will continue to analyze developments of this market and work with industry leaders to help ensure guardrails and regulations to protect NCAA competition, student-athletes, coaches and officials.\u201d<\/p>\n

Saving it for the playoffs<\/p>\n

Ohio State showed last season in the first year of the 12-team playoff that a team didn\u2019t need to be a high seed to win the title. The Buckeyes went in as the eight seed, but powered through the field.<\/p>\n

Bettors have noticed, with more wagers going on the under of 10 1\/2 wins for Ohio State, causing the number at BetMGM to be at -145. The over is +120.<\/p>\n

Ohio State is -325 to make the playoff field.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt felt like they kind of coasted through the regular season and then really turned it on when they got to the playoffs,\u201d BetMGM sports trading manager Christian Cipollini said. \u201cSome of these teams are almost guaranteed to get in with this expanded playoff. It\u2019s going to take a lot for Ohio State or Alabama, these really big-name schools, to not make it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Group of Five favorites<\/p>\n

Boise State became the first team from outside the power conferences to make the playoffs, and bettors believe they will make it back \u2014 even without Heisman runner-up Ashton Jeanty<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The No. 25 Broncos are favored at DraftKings and Caesars Sportsbook to represent the Group of Five.<\/p>\n

\u201cA very simple schedule,\u201d said Joey Feazel, head of football at Caesars. \u201cThere\u2019s high expectations that they\u2019re going to be good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boise State is a -160 favorite at BetMGM to win the Mountain West, with UNLV next at +700. But as far as that sportsbook\u2019s odds to win the national championship, the Rebels are 200-1 compared to 250-1 for the Broncos.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat surprises me,\u201d Cipollini said.<\/p>\n

Interest in long shots<\/p>\n

Avello said money has come in on No. 20 Indiana (+500) and No. 23 Texas Tech (+450) at DraftKings to win the title.<\/p>\n

Avello said if either makes the postseason field, those backing can either hope for a big payoff or bet against them to guarantee a profit.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe odds are higher and (bettors) look at them as teams that are maybe making a move forward over the last couple of years,\u201d Avello said.<\/p>\n
