NFL teams hope for success from their third-round picks.<\/p>\n

They certainly don’t want to have to cut them after just a single season.<\/p>\n

But the New York Jets are staring down that scenario heading into the NFL’s cutdown day Tuesday, in which initial 53-man rosters have to be finalized.<\/p>\n

The player in question is wide receiver Malachi Corley.<\/p>\n

ESPN’s Rich Cimini<\/a> broke down some of the Jets’ cut decisions in a post on X on Sunday morning, and this is what he had to say about Corley:<\/p>\n

“I don’t think there’s a scenario where he makes it.”<\/p>\n

A new coaching staff in New York is certainly not something working in Corley’s favor. Aaron Glenn and company weren’t a part of the process that landed Corley in the first place.<\/p>\n

The Jets took him No. 65 overall out of Western Kentucky, right at the start of the 2024 third round.<\/p>\n

He was supposed to be an explosive, speedy wideout who could make plays, including potentially in the return game.<\/p>\n

Instead, he had an early-season fumble gaffe as a rookie and never really recovered.<\/p>\n

Corley ended up appearing in nine games and made just three catches for 16 yards while rushing twice for 26 yards.<\/p>\n

The Jets have had a couple young wideouts play their name into roster contention this summer, helping to make Corley expendable.<\/p>\n

It’s likely that if he’s cut, another team will give him a chance, given his solid pedigree.<\/p>\n

But this ends up being a tough miss by the Jets, the kind a team trying to build itself back up can’t necessarily afford.<\/p>\n
