The Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings parted ways with four players apiece with Alabama football roots on Sunday.<\/p>\n
NFL teams have until 3 p.m. CDT Tuesday to reduce their 90-player preseason rosters to 53-man active rosters for the regular season.<\/p>\n
In all, 10 players who played at Alabama high schools and colleges lost their jobs on Sunday. All were waived, except cornerback Tony Brown<\/a>.<\/p>\n RELATED: TONY BROWN CARRIES THE BAMBOO SCEPTER WITH THE CLEVELAND BROWNS<\/a><\/p>\n Because Brown is a vested veteran, with his first NFL game coming in 2018, he is not subject to waivers. Instead, Cleveland terminated the former Alabama <\/a>defensive back\u2019s contract, making him a free agent able to sign with any team immediately.<\/p>\n The other players will be subject to being claimed by other teams until 11 a.m. Wednesday, at which time they will become free agents if unclaimed.<\/p>\n The players with Alabama football roots who lost their NFL roster spots on Sunday included:<\/p>\n Defensive tackle Travis Bell (Jeff Davis) by the Minnesota VikingsCornerback Tony Brown (Alabama) by the Cleveland BrownsTight end Sal Cannella (Auburn<\/a>) by the Cleveland BrownsGuard Javion Cohen (Central-Phenix City, Alabama) by the Cleveland BrownsWide receiver Grant DuBose (Park Crossing, Miles) by the Buffalo BillsDefensive tackle Decarius Hawthorne (Center Point) by the Los Angeles RamsCornerback Keenan Isaac (Midfield, Alabama State<\/a>) by the Cleveland BrownsWide receiver Robert Lewis (Auburn) by the Minnesota VikingsCornerback Reddy Steward (Austin, Troy<\/a>) by the Minnesota VikingsRunning back Tre Stewart (Jacksonville State<\/a>) by the Minnesota Vikings<\/p>\n Hawthorne, Lewis and Stewart were undrafted rookies hoping to beat the odds.<\/p>\n Brown has played in 67 NFL regular-season games, Isaac has played in seven, DuBose three, Bell two and Cohen and Steward one apiece. <\/p>\n Cannella was the All-USFL tight end in 2022 and the All-UFL tight end in 2025. But he has not played in an NFL regular-season game and was released at the end of the preseason for the fourth year in a row.
