Cam Robinson<\/a>\u00a0signed with the Texans during free agency in a move which appeared to set him up for left tackle duties in Houston. The veteran blindside blocker could soon be on the move, however.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The Texans have discussed trading away Robinson, ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter reports<\/a>. The team\u2019s new-look offensive line has been a key storyline through the summer, and second-round rookie\u00a0Aireontae Ersery<\/a>\u00a0has enjoyed a strong camp. If Houston is comfortable with him starting at left tackle, Robinson could be deemed expendable.<\/p>\n

Houston gave Robinson a one-year, $12MM deal in free agency. Despite checking in as one of this year\u2019s top free agents, the eight-year left tackle starter (with Jacksonville and Minnesota), Robinson does not look to have beaten out Ersery \u2014 added a month after his Texans commitment \u2014 for the LT job. Schefter points to Ersery being set to start in Week 1, with KPRC2\u2019s Aaron Wilson indicating<\/a> that will be the case.<\/p>\n

Wilson points to the Texans \u2014 who made a host of offseason moves along their O-line \u2014 rolling out a group that includes Ersery, Laken Tomlinson<\/a>, Jake Andrews<\/a>, Ed Ingram<\/a> and Tytus Howard<\/a> up front. That would mean the Texans will have one returning starter (Howard) from last season. Howard has bounced around Houston\u2019s O-line during his career, but after being pegged as more likely to stay at guard, a shift back to RT looks likely.<\/p>\n

After struggling to protect C.J. Stroud<\/a> during a disjointed offensive season, the Texans\u2019 O-line received a makeover. The team traded Laremy Tunsil<\/a> and Kenyon Green<\/a>, releasing Shaq Mason<\/a> as well. Ingram came over in a trade after being benched in his Vikings contract year, while Andrews \u2014 a 2023 Patriots fourth-rounder \u2014 did not play a snap last season.<\/p>\n

Robinson, 29, has drawn trade interest, according to Wilson<\/a>. Nothing is imminent, however. He would be an expensive swing tackle if Houston were to move on, and it would represent the first time the former second-round pick would have entered an NFL season as a backup. The Texans, though, also have 2024 second-round pick Blake Fisher<\/a> as a swing option. Trent Brown<\/a> signed in the offseason as well, though the veteran remains on Houston\u2019s active\/PUP list. Brown will need to be either transferred to the reserve\/PUP list or activated today.<\/p>\n

Robinson has made 101 career starts, earning two Jaguars franchise tags before being signed to a three-year, $52.75MM extension. The Jags traded that contract to the Vikings last year, going with Walker Little<\/a> \u2014 who signed an extension late in Trent Baalke\u2018s GM tenure \u2014 at LT. Robinson finished last season as the Vikes\u2019 Christian Darrisaw<\/a> replacement. He could be on the move again today.<\/p>\n
