The Seahawks established an initial 53-man roster on Tuesday with a series of moves, which included a trade that sent tackle Michael Jerrell to Atlanta.<\/p>\n
In addition to releasing vested veterans and waiving players, the Seahawks also placed one player, guard Christian Haynes, on injured reserve. Defensive linemen Johnathan Hankins and rookie Rylie Mills will both open the season on the non-football injury list.<\/p>\n
The initial 53-man roster includes 11 rookies, eight of 11 members of the 2025 draft class, as well as three undrafted rookies, tight end Nick Kallerup, outside linebacker Jared Ivey and outside linebacker Connor O’Toole. The only draft picks not on the initial roster are Mills, who is still recovering from at torn ACL suffered late in his senior year with Notre Dame, and seventh-round picks Damien Martinez and Ricky White III. Martinez and White, as well as several other players waived on Tuesday, could be back with the team on Wednesday after teams are allowed to establish a 17-player practice squad.<\/p>\n
“We’re looking at it through the lens of, ‘Hey, this is the 70. This is not the final 53,'” head coach Mike Macdonald said. “We need everybody in our building, all these guys have been awesome. This is the crew that we’re building for the long haul and so it’s a big day for these guys. I understand that. Big couple of days, but hopefully we have kind of a longer term view of their careers. We really appreciate the guys that have been here the whole time and done a great job.”<\/p>\n
