Former PSU star and Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin, along with left tackle Tristan Wirfs, were activated from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list on Tuesday. Godwin is expected to be added to the team’s 53-man roster ahead of the 2025 NFL season.<\/p>\n

Last week, head coach Todd Bowles hinted at the development and clarified that the veteran won’t return to action immediately as he is still recovering from\u00a0a dislocated ankle sustained in Week 7 of the 2024 season. There’s a low chance he features in the starting lineup for at least until October.<\/p>\n

“(Godwin’s) got to get in football shape and everything else, so I wouldn’t expect him to play early on,” Bowles said<\/a>. “He’s been out a long time, he’s got to get in football shape. Tristan, the same way. But they’ll be off and we’ll see how it goes going forward.”<\/p>\n

Godwin has been stellar for the Buccaneers<\/p>\n

Before his injury in the Week 7 game, Godwin had\u00a050 receptions, 576 yards and five touchdowns through just seven games. The Bucs felt his void for the remainder of the 2024 season, which saw them getting eliminated in the wild-card round.<\/p>\n

Godwin’s return is critical for the Bucs’ depth and offensive versatility. With wide receiver Jalen McMillan expected to miss extended time with a severe neck injury, Godwin\u2019s eventual return is even more critical for the Bucs’ depth and offensive versatility.<\/p>\n
