SANTA CLARA \u2014 The 49ers now are in regular-season mode, with only the early portion of Wednesday’s practice open to the media.<\/p>\n
During the approximately 20 minutes when media can observe, players can be seen doing warming up and stretching as a team, followed by positional drills. During that time, running back Jordan James and nickel back Upton Stout were seen on the field doing some light work with their position groups.\u00a0<\/p>\n
With the roster trimmed to 53 <\/a>and an additional 13 currently signed to the practice squad<\/a>, there were a few jersey number changes: \u2028<\/p>\n 53-man roster Nos.\u2028<\/p>\n No. 3 Brian Robinson<\/p>\n No. 9 Skyy Moore<\/p>\n No. 65 Drew Moss<\/p>\n Practice squad Nos.<\/p>\n No. 7 Robbie Chosen<\/p>\n No. 30 Eli Apple<\/p>\n No. 82 Brayden Willis<\/p>\n No. 84 Malik Turner<\/p>\n There also were a few players who remained absent from Wednesday\u2019s session:<\/p>\n WR Jauan Jennings (calf)<\/p>\n WR Jordan Watkins (ankle)<\/p>\n OL Dominick Puni (knee)<\/p>\n DL Kalia Davis (unknown)<\/p>\n DL Yetur Gross-Matos (knee)<\/p>\n General manager John Lynch is hopeful that Puni<\/a> and Ben Bartch (elbow) could be available Week 1 for their divisional clash with the Seattle Seahawks.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re optimistic about it\u201d Lynch said on Wednesday. \u201cWe\u2019re hoping so. I guess I would say that\u2019d be trending in the right direction, but we won\u2019t know that until next week. We got Bartch back out on Monday\u2019s practice, we\u2019re on course for that.<\/p>\n \u201cHoping to get Puni out sometime next week, if not Monday, hopefully Wednesday. But he\u2019s doing good in his rehab and it\u2019s looking positive so far.\u201d<\/p>\n Gross-Matos, who was activated to the active roster from the physically unable to perform lists, remains out as he recovers from a knee injury.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, he\u2019s possible for Week 1,\u201d Lynch said of the defensive lineman. \u201cWe expect him to get out and start practicing here next week. But we\u2019ve been working him out like he\u2019s going to play Week 1. He\u2019s been handling that well. Hopefully that\u2019ll continue and he\u2019ll be out there on Sunday.”<\/p>\n Defensive tackle Jordan Jefferson, a new addition to the 49ers’ roster who was claimed off waivers<\/a> Wednesday, was not yet on the field. Also absent was Russell Gage Jr., who Lynch shared would be added to the 53-man roster very soon.<\/p>\n The 49ers will reconvene Thursday for practice and then will not have any media availability through the weekend with a potential \u201cbonus\u201d practice on Monday.<\/p>\n
