-Titans cornerback L’Jarius Sneed practiced on Thursday, and he appears to be on track to be ready for the opener.<\/p>\n
Sneed was just activated from the team’s Physically Unable to Perform list last week.<\/p>\n
“I think he is trending that way for sure,” Callahan said of Sneed. “It’s been a real positive week for him, he’s been back at practice. We’ll get to the injury designations next week, but (we’re) pleased with where he’s at. It’s been a long offseason for him, it’s been a lot of work, and it’s been a lot of solitude in there (in the training room), when you’re trying to get back. So, really happy for him that he is back out here with his teammates and practicing, he’s looked good. \u2026 We feel good about where he’s at.”<\/p>\n
-Titans GM Mike Borgonzi said earlier on Thursday the plan is for rookie Chimere Dike to handle the job as returner for the Titans.<\/p>\n
Both Borgonzi and Callahan gave Dike a nice endorsement.<\/p>\n
“First and foremost, he is experienced,” Callahan said of Dike. “He was a pretty productive returner in the SEC, was productive at Wisconsin. He’s done it a lot, and he has gotten a lot of reps at it. He’s looked good in practice, is a sure catcher. He has real speed and ability to break. I am excited to see what he can do back there.”<\/p>\n
-Titans defensive lineman T’Vondre Sweat also missed a stretch of practices recently, but he is back to practicing.<\/p>\n
“He seems good right now,” Callahan said of Sweat. “He’s been involved in practice all week. \u2026 We’ll see how next week shakes out for him, but we expect him to be in a pretty good spot. For him, right now it’s a conditioning and football shape (thing). He’s missed a decent amount of time in there, so it’s getting him up to speed with the conditioning and with the pads.”<\/p>\n
-Titans right tackle JC Latham did not practice on Thursday, and he’s missed time recently.<\/p>\n
Callahan said he believes Latham is trending in the right direction.<\/p>\n
“He’s good,” Callahan said of Latham. “He missed a little bit of time this week with the same soreness and issues he had last week. I don’t think it’s anything that is going to keep him out, but we’ll see how he gets through the weekend and into next week.”<\/p>\n
-The Titans elected seven captains on Wednesday: QB Cam Ward, WR Calvin Ridley, RB Tony Pollard, DT Jeffery Simmons, S Amani Hooker, LB Cody Barton, LS Morgan Cox.<\/p>\n
Callahan and the players said Ward earned the right to be a captain, even as a rookie. The captains were elected by their teammates.<\/p>\n
