{"id":32565,"date":"2025-05-08T02:21:07","date_gmt":"2025-05-08T02:21:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/32565\/"},"modified":"2025-05-08T02:21:07","modified_gmt":"2025-05-08T02:21:07","slug":"colts-deforest-buckner-on-teams-offseason-moves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/32565\/","title":{"rendered":"Colts DeForest Buckner on team&#8217;s offseason moves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>INDIANAPOLIS \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colts.com\/team\/players-roster\/deforest-buckner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">DeForest Buckner<\/a> wanted change from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colts.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Colts<\/a> this offseason.<\/p>\n<p>Change in the way the team pursued free agents.<\/p>\n<p>Change in the way the rest of the defense prepared and played, coming on the heels of a season that left Buckner frustrated, prompting the veteran defensive tackle to call out his unit for issues of ego, chemistry and accountability.<\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/nfl\/teams\/indianapolis-colts\/338\" data-autotag=\"d3fda36a-3eb5-4700-8763-caba831c06ae\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Colts<\/a> have already fulfilled one of Buckner\u2019s desires.<\/p>\n<p>Indianapolis opened free agency by forking over big money to sign former 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward and former <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/nfl\/teams\/minnesota-vikings\/347\" data-autotag=\"839728ed-97f0-4c7c-9ea6-299b7540514e\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Vikings<\/a> safety Camryn Bynum, transforming a secondary that has often been unable to hold up its end of the bargain the past two seasons because of a lack of experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was excited,\u201d Buckner said. \u201cMooney (Ward) and Bynum are both dynamic players, big playmakers, bring a lot of energy to the defense, and I think they\u2019re going to help us a lot moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"related-link\">Colts mailbag: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indystar.com\/story\/sports\/nfl\/colts\/2025\/05\/05\/colts-mailbag-linebacker-guard\/83388702007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">What are the plans at linebacker and guard? Is a trade coming?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Buckner did not call for a change at defensive coordinator at the end of the season, but he\u2019s also excited about the team\u2019s decision to hire Lou Anarumo, whose scheme will make the Colts a lot more difficult to read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeep offenses guessing,\u201d Buckner said. \u201cNot everything is always going to look the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is far too early to tell if Buckner is going to see the other changes he wants to see defensively.<\/p>\n<p>The Colts have only been back in the building for offseason workouts for a couple of weeks, and although Anarumo set the tone by telling his defense that he didn\u2019t care what they\u2019d done in the past, Buckner has been around long enough to know that the real test will come in the regular season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt keeps everybody on their toes, making sure they\u2019re in their playbook, doing the right things on and off the field,\u201d Buckner said. \u201cIt\u2019s encouraging, as a competitor, as a player, when you\u2019ve got that type of accountability coming from the coach, and now it\u2019s up to the players to relay that message among each other.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"INDIANAPOLIS \u2014 DeForest Buckner wanted change from the Colts this offseason.
