A revised contract for Alexander, due $17.5 million in cash this year, to balance his injury history with his longtime status as an elite corner might be the most sensible play.”

On the contract front, the Packers could want a revised deal that allows Alexander — who has missed at least 10 games in three of the last four seasons — to earn his full salary if he’s healthy and available in 2025 but protects the team in case the injuries continue.

The Packers and Alexander looked headed for an offseason divorce, but general manager Brian Gutekunst didn’t trade Alexander before or during the draft and then didn’t take a cornerback — Tulane’s Micah Robinson — until the seventh round.

According to coach Matt LaFleur, Alexander participated during the virtual start to the offseason program but wasn’t available for in-person activities last week. The two sides are likely protecting against injury until a resolution is reached.

With Alexander on the team, the Packers could be strong and deep at cornerback, especially considering Keisean Nixon’s improvement as an inside-out option and the addition of Nate Hobbs in free agency, plus the potential progression of recent draft picks such as Carrington Valentine, safety-slot Javon Bullard, Kalen King and Kamal Hadden. The dynamic at cornerback would look much different if Alexander — a true No. 1 corner — doesn’t return.

Alexander intercepted two passes (returning one for an interception) and broke up five other passes over seven games in 2024. He injured his knee during a late October win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, suffered a setback while trying to return three weeks later in Chciago and then eventually picked season-ending surgery to fix the issue.

Alexander has two years left on his deal. The Packers could save over $17 million on the 2025 cap if Alexander is released or traded post-June 1st.

A resolution between the Green Bay Packers and cornerback Jaire Alexander on his status for the 2025 season…

[2072
1203,247,265,210,2935,2945,12,388,7,27,41,345,2514,2513,2936,379,3421,5390,3420,3787,3031,246,88,6,245,264,428,9,266
0":"post-32925","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-green-bay-packers","8":"tag-alexander","9":"tag-american","10":"tag-american-football","11":"tag-bay","12":"tag-brian","13":"tag-brian-gutekunst","14":"tag-espn","15":"tag-espn-inc","16":"tag-football","17":"tag-green","18":"tag-green-bay","19":"tag-green-bay-packers","20":"tag-greenbay","21":"tag-greenbaypackers","22":"tag-gutekunst","23":"tag-inc","24":"tag-jaire","25":"tag-jaire-alexander","26":"tag-lafleur","27":"tag-matt","28":"tag-matt-lafleur","29":"tag-neutral","30":"tag-news","31":"tag-nfl","32":"tag-overall","33":"tag-overall-neutral","34":"tag-packers","35":"tag-sports","36":"tag-sports-news
["GET
