The Buffalo Bills continue to buck a trend in the NFL and, for the upcoming season, are the only team to do this.<\/p>\n

The Buffalo Bills will be the only NFL team during the 2025 NFL season to have only two official captains.<\/p>\n

Buffalo Bills Announce Team Captains For Upcoming Season<\/p>\n

For the 2nd straight year, the Buffalo Bills will only have two official captains, one from the offense and one from the defense.<\/p>\n

Josh Allen was named the team captain from the Offense, while Terrel Bernard was picked from the defensive side.<\/p>\n

How Are NFL Team Captains Picked?<\/p>\n

According to the NFL rulebook, NFL teams can have up to 6 official team captains and they are picked by a team-wide vote. Most NFL teams choose their captains before the start of the season; only Seattle and Green Bay appoint captains on a weekly basis.<\/p>\n

Most teams have at least three captains, one from the offense, one from the defense, and one from special teams.<\/p>\n

What Do The Stars On Captains’ Uniforms Mean?<\/p>\n

The stars mean how many years the player has served as a captain for the team. Players who have been a captain for over 4 years will get four gold stars and a gold “C”.<\/p>\n

So, even though Josh Allen has been a captain for 7 years, his uniform will only have four gold stars and a gold “C”; Terrell Benard’s uniform will have two white stars since he has been a captain for only two seasons.<\/p>\n
