Entering the game as a 13.5-point underdog, Florida State<\/a> and Tommy Castellanos<\/a> created the biggest storyline of college football’s Week 1, rolling past No. 8 Alabama 31-17<\/a> for a stunning upset.<\/p>\n

The second top-10 win for the ACC to open up the season came at Hard Rock Stadium, as Miami kicker Carter Davis hit a go-ahead 47-yard field goal for the Hurricanes<\/a> to win a thriller against No. 5 Notre Dame. The Hurricanes<\/a>‘ offseason acquisition, Carson Beck<\/a>, shined in his first start at Miami, throwing for 205 yards and two touchdowns.<\/p>\n

There was a third potential top-10 win out there for the ACC in Week 1, but No. 6 Clemson<\/a> fell short against No. 9 LSU, 17-10, at Memorial Stadium. Dabo Swinney’s team held a 10-3 halftime lead but were then shut out by LSU’s defense in the second half.<\/p>\n

Finally, on Monday, Sept. 1, North Carolina football opened up the Bill Belichick era in Chapel Hill with a highly anticipated but ultimately lopsided 48-14 loss<\/a> against TCU on Labor Day.<\/p>\n
