The Pinellas Park Patriots<\/a> hit the road for the first time in 2025. They would travel to play the East Lake Eagles. The same team that the Patriots have beaten in the last few years. It was a humid evening at Joe D. Caruthers Stadium, and the excitement was there for high school football. The game kicked off shortly after 7 pm and was played differently by both teams. Pinellas Park has utilized the running game over the past few years to achieve success. On the other hand, the East Lake Eagles like to air it out with their passing attack. Would this be the first time in a few years that the Eagles could defeat the Patriots?<\/p>\n

Last week, the Pinellas Park Patriots<\/a> used the ground game to beat their rival, the Largo Packers, finally. They also had some good play from young quarterback Frankie Cherry, who made some passes when he needed to. The running game and defense are what helped Pinellas Park win last week. This week, the East Lake Eagles\u2019 defense was ready for that style of offense. Once again, the Patriots had a great game, totaling 236 yards with most coming from sophomore running back Jhai Hitchcock (15 carries, 92 yards) with a long of 22 and averaged about six yards per carry. The other player that stood out again was senior Anthony Roman, who had 86 yards on 14 carries and averaged six yards per carry. Where Pinellas Park struggled was in the passing game.<\/p>\n

The Pinellas Park Patriots<\/a> only had 27 total yards in the air, and that came on one pass. Frankie Cherry struggled, going 1 for 9 for no yards and one interception. Back-up quarterback Chayse Armstrong went 1 for 1 for 27 yards and one touchdown. So that meant that Pinellas Park leaned on the run to try and win the game. The East Lake Eagles played good defense, and despite two turnovers, they were able to control the game. Starting quarterback senior Eli Millian went 10 for 24 for 284 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. One of the biggest plays was his 75-yard pass for a touchdown to junior wide receiver Brian Ford. The biggest player for the Eagles in the passing game was senior Jermiah Cooper, who had six receptions for 173 yards.<\/p>\n

The East Lake Eagles blocked a field goal, so they also won on special teams. They also missed a field goal. When it was all said and done, East Lake scored four touchdowns to Pinellas Park\u2019s three. The game would end with the Eagles finally beating the Patriots 34-23. The Pinellas Park Patriots<\/a> will have to go back to the drawing board as they get ready for the Bayshore Bruins. Pinellas Park will hit the road again and play the Bruins in Bradenton. The Bruins have the same record as the Patriots at 1-1. It was the same as the start for Bayshore, winning in week one and losing in week two. Last week, they were shut out by the Parrish Community Bulls 40-0. The game will kick off at 7:30 pm, and we will see if the Patriots can bounce back.<\/p>\n
