This week, Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke to New Orleans Saints<\/a> offensive lineman Cesar Ruiz about his work in the community, earning his first-ever NFLPA Community MVP<\/a> nomination, and thoughts on his team signing former Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> safety Justin Reid.<\/p>\n

“Yeah, definitely is a. It’s one thing you recognize for what you do on the field, and, it shows the type of person you are off the field, football is my job, but it’s a, it’s not just my identity,” said Ruiz, “I get to show people the side of me off the field, and show that I care about my community. I want to make a difference.”<\/p>\n

After losing in Super Bowl LIX as a starter on the Chiefs in New Orleans, the veteran decided to stay and join Ruiz on the Saints. Reid agreed to a three-year, $31.5 million deal with the New Orleans Saints, including $22.25 million in fully guaranteed salary.<\/p>\n

“It’s definitely good to have a guy on the team who has experience being in the Super Bowl and playing in that game.” said Ruiz, “So it’s definitely good to have a guy like that in the locker room, because they know what it looks like, and they know what it’s like to be a part of that.”<\/p>\n

The two-time Super Bowl champion finished his last season in Kansas City with 81 combined tackles (55 solo) and two interceptions. He played well in the postseason and hoped for a potential return to the Chiefs at the start of free agency before deciding to join his hometown team.<\/p>\n

Ruiz hosted “Let’s Ride with Cesar Ruiz<\/a>,” a family-friendly bike giveaway and celebration in his hometown of Camden, NJ. The event was about more than just bikes: It promoted safety, encouraged active lifestyles, and reminded Camden kids that they mattered.<\/p>\n
