He had 23 tackles and four for loss last season.

“He isn’t a passer rusher or three down player,” ESPN’s Louis Riddick said. “But when he plays low, plays with good pad level, with good footwork and hand usage, he will stack up the middle and you will be [stout] inside.”

ESPN’s Matt Miller noted: “He was 17 when he went to college. He blocked two kicks in college. Get him in the middle of the field when the other team is kicking a field goal, Zeek Biggers will help you out.”

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein said that “on paper, Biggers has the measurables that teams search for along the defensive front, but he lacks the build of an NFL interior defender. He’ll flash with a big punch to drive a guard off his spot, but he logs too many reps where he’s slow into contact and jostled around at the point.

“He’s slow getting off the blocks and misses too many tries. Biggers offers no rush help. He needs to get stronger to take advantage of his length and will have to prove himself as a 3-4 defensive end in the pros.”

The Dolphins used their picks on Saturday on Maryland defensive tackle Jordan Phillips (143rd pick), UF cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. (150th), Maryland safety Dante Trader Jr. (155th), Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon Jr (179th), Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers (231st) and Biggers at 255.

Here’s what Grier had to say about several of those picks and other issues:

▪ On Ewers: “Quinn had a very good college football career. We’ve talked to [Texas] coach Steve Sarkisian about him. Sark really likes him, and talked about him playing through injuries this year, which affected his play a little bit. He talked about his mental toughness. He loved his competitiveness, how he played, how his teammates responded. At that point in the draft, it made sense to make the pick.”

▪ Grier said the team considered drafting Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who fell to Cleveland in the fifth round: “We had lots of discussions about him today.” Miami took Maryland defensive tackle Phillips one spot before the Browns selected Sanders.

▪ On why the Dolphins drafted bigger players, Grier said: “We wanted to get better on the offensive line. We talked about adding youth and it just so happens these guys are bigger players, physical, tough kids who love football. They fit the bill at the offensive line spot.”

▪ Grier, on where things stand with Jalen Ramsey trade talks: “We had conversations through the weekend with teams. Whenever it happens, we will make the deal at the appropriate time.”

Will Grier wait until June 1 when the cap hit is lower for trading Ramsey? Not necessarily, Grier said: “Whenever those opportunities arise” Miami will explore them, he responded.

When asked about his relationship with Ramsey, Mike McDaniel said he did not wish to discuss it on draft weekend.

▪ Grier, on why the Dolphins traded a fourth-round pick in a deal for a 2025 third-rounder from the Texans: “When you have opportunities to get a pick in the third round, that’s a very valuable pick. To move down, we had a number of picks on the third day. For us, it’s always looking short- and long-term.”

He said when the focus is only on the present, “that’s when you make mistakes.”

▪ How likely is it to add a veteran cornerback? Grier: “We’ve had a number of conversations with veteran free agents who are good players. Those will continue and we will see if we can get something done.”

▪ McDaniel said with running back Ollie Gordon, “I saw a lot of really good stuff. It was evident when we visited with him, he was eager to prove himself. The 2023 tape was very impressive. Based upon our interactions with him, we feel optimistic that is the version we are going to improve upon.”

▪ UF’s Marshall is “a size corner with movement skills,” Grier said.

The Dolphins used their eighth and final pick of the NFL Draft by selecting Georgia Tech defensive tackle…

[2049
85,2793,217,7,3023,221,1815,1605,2527,3239,216,251,2087,6,3238,1849,17,3235,3237,3236
0":"post-3449","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-miami-dolphins","8":"tag-cleveland","9":"tag-defensive-tackle","10":"tag-dolphins","11":"tag-football","12":"tag-georgia-tech","13":"tag-houston","14":"tag-jalen-ramsey","15":"tag-jordan-phillips","16":"tag-lance-zierlein","17":"tag-louis-riddick","18":"tag-miami","19":"tag-miami-dolphins","20":"tag-miamidolphins","21":"tag-nfl","22":"tag-ollie-gordon","23":"tag-quinn-ewers","24":"tag-shedeur-sanders","25":"tag-the-dolphins","26":"tag-will-grier","27":"tag-zeek-biggers
["GET
