Eagles fullback and special teams ace Ben VanSumeren will reportedly miss the rest of the season.<\/p>\n
VanSumeren, 25, tore his patellar tendon on the opening kickoff of Thursday\u2019s opener, ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter reported.<\/p>\n
The Eagles on Friday placed VanSumeren on Injured Reserve and signed veteran edge rusher Za\u2019Darius Smith.<\/p>\n
As VanSumeren waited for the cart to take him off the field, DT Jalen Carter was ejected for spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. The Eagles eventually won 24-20.<\/p>\n
VanSumeren lasted just 11 games last season before suffering a season-ending knee injury in practice. After rehabbing from that injury, VanSumeren made the roster again, only to get hurt on the first play of the opener.<\/p>\n
The Eagles initially signed VanSumeren as a undrafted linebacker in 2023 but began to use him as a fullback during last season. This offseason, VanSumeren became a full-time fullback.<\/p>\n
After VanSumeren got hurt last year, the Eagles added veteran FB Khari Blasingame. So it\u2019ll be interesting to see if the Eagles add another fullback this year.
