The Jaxson Dart era could begin for the New York Giants<\/a> on Sunday against the Washington Commanders. Sort of.<\/p>\n

Although veteran Russell Wilson will get the start, NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo report that the Giants have installed a package for Dart<\/a> they could implement if the game flows in a certain direction.<\/p>\n

The Giants have prepared a package of plays for their first-round rookie quarterback in the game plan for Sunday\u2019s regular-season opener against the Washington Commanders, sources say, after three impressive showings from Dart in the preseason convinced the team he’s ready for regular-season action.<\/p>\n

Although there is a package installed, Rapoport and Garafolo note there are no guarantees that head coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will employ those plays. It will be entirely situational and would likely require the Giants to be out ahead.<\/p>\n

If Dart does get the call, Kafka is confident he will be ready.<\/p>\n

“He’s prepping to play and prepping to get ready to roll and just being on schedule with everybody, just like everybody is. I think he’s right on schedule. I think we’re right where we’re supposed to be in terms of the game plan,” Kafka told reporters this week.<\/p>\n

There have also been multiple reports suggesting the Giants are pleased with Dart’s early development and have growing confidence in him. However, Wilson will remain the team’s starter and will only surrender the reins if he struggles or the offense doesn’t generate points.<\/p>\n

Still, Giants fans could get a little taste of the future in Week 1 against Washington if all the dominoes fit into place.<\/p>\n
