\u201cNo question,\u201d Jake Moody will be the 49ers\u2019 kicker in Week 2.<\/p>\n
At least that\u2019s what coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters during his press conference following San Francisco\u2019s 17-13 Week 1 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at Lumen Field.<\/p>\n
Shanahan and the 49ers, who brought in veteran Greg Joseph for the team\u2019s training camp to compete with the 2023 third-round draft pick, have once again decided Moody\u2019s their guy.<\/p>\n
Moody went 1-for-3 on field goals on the day and 2-for-2 on extra points in San Francisco’s season-opening win.<\/p>\n
With the first half winding down, Moody doinked a 27-yard attempt off the goal post which resulted in the score remaining a 7-7 tie.<\/p>\n
In the third quarter, Moody had his second field goal attempt of the game blocked, which kept the Seahawks\u2019 10-7 advantage intact before making his third attempt of the game in the fourth quarter to even the scoring at 10 apiece.<\/p>\n
Shanahan told reporters he was disappointed in not just Moody, but his entire special teams unit and explained why during his press conference.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously, I was disappointed that we missed two field goals,\u201d Shanahan said. \u201cWe missed one which was a big miss, especially we were inside the 10. I want to say it was a 27-yarder. Then the next one [Julian] Love made a hell of a move. \u2026 We got to clean up that protection. That\u2019s everyone there. That one wasn\u2019t Jake, that\u2019s just the whole operation. But yeah, we\u2019ve got to do better.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 49ers escaped their Week 1 battle with a nail-biting victory despite the kicking struggles, but Moody — who has gone just 12-for-23 in field goal attempts dating back to Week 10 of 2024 — will have to improve for the questions about whether or not San Francisco should make a kicking change to stop anytime soon.<\/p>\n
