(New Orleans, LA<\/a>) The Kellen Moore <\/a>era of New Orleans Saints football<\/a> has begun, and the new regime’s start appears to have produced an outcome that is very familiar to Saints fans as of late. Yeah, there was a time when Saints fans got used to winning, planning for the playoffs, working out trash talk, and preparing to embarrass anyone who had any connection to the city of Atlanta.<\/p>\n

But that was then, and this is now, and if the Saints and Saints fans aren’t careful, we’re going to have a long year dealing with the likes of the Falcons, the Panthers, and the Buccaneers, too.<\/p>\n

Heck, we don’t even have the Cowboys on the schedule this year; fortunately, that guaranteed win we usually chalk up against Dallas, we can now substitute the Miami game. Miami makes the Saints look like a well-oiled machine.<\/p>\n

What Did The Saints Do Sunday that They Haven’t Done in The Past Six Years?<\/p>\n

This past Sunday, the Saints did something that they haven’t done <\/a>in quite a few years, actually: they lost their season opener. The Saints had won six straight season openers before falling to the Arizona Cardinals in yesterday’s game by a score of 20 to 13.<\/p>\n

And despite the fact that accounts of how the Saints would perform this year<\/a> have been less than glowing, tens of thousands of supporters of the Black and Gold all showed up on Sunday, and almost every one of them was on the same “high” that all the others were on.<\/p>\n

Now, I am sure there were one or two fans who may have been drinking prior to and during the game. I would even go so far as to imagine that maybe some of Louisiana’s Medical Marijuana patients<\/a> were on hand at the game, too. Chances are, there were some folks on street-level drugs in attendance as well, but the drug of choice among all Saints fans was the one you didn’t even have to swallow, smoke, snort, or inject.<\/p>\n

This “drug” has been known to produce dopamine, endorphins, serotonin, and oxytocin, all at the same time within the human body. <\/a>It is why Saints fans felt so good heading into the ‘Dome on Sunday afternoon. And it’s at its strongest on the first day of the NFL season. What is the “drug”?<\/p>\n

Confirmed: This Is a New Orleans Saints Fan’s Drug of Choice<\/p>\n

The not-so-scientific term for it is “Hopium”. <\/a>Basically, it’s the power of “hope” and how it affects the chemicals in the brain to give you a pleasurable reaction. It is our belief that tens of thousands of hopeful Saints fans arrived at the Superdome filled with “Hopium” but soon found out that the Arizona Cardinals had brought an antidote.<\/p>\n

If you look up the word “hopium” online,<\/a> you’ll find that it’s either a French automobile or a slang term that means “a substance said to have been ingested by those who maintain an unrealistically optimistic outlook”. And yes, based on that definition, that sounds like every Saints fan on every opening day.\u00a0<\/p>\n
