Confidence was the word following Georgia\u2019s 28-6 win over Austin Peay. <\/p>\n
Starting quarterback Gunner Stockton<\/a> first used the term post-game, stating that he needs to build confidence as a passer. Then head coach Kirby Smart<\/a> talked about it, noting that he needs to see what Stockton does in practice translate in games.<\/p>\n But while Stockton is still building his confidence, his teammates don\u2019t lack any in him.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s explosive in practice. I\u2019ve seen him make unbelievable next-level plays.\u00a0He has an unbelievable arm,\u201d senior receiver Colbie Young<\/a> said of Stockton Monday.\u00a0\u201cI like to say he\u2019s kind of like a Russell Wilson type, the way he puts the ball in the air\u00a0and he just drops it in the bucket.\u201d<\/p>\n So far through two games Stockton has yet to \u201cdrop it in the bucket\u201d downfield yet. In fact, 72.4 percent of his passes have been either behind the line of scrimmage or just beyond it in the short game (0-9 yards).<\/p>\n However, that isn\u2019t a reflection of Stockton\u2019s inability to throw it downfield. Rather, much like Smart said post-game Saturday, it\u2019s about what the defense was doing.<\/p>\n \u201cBut when we play defenses that are not allowing us to throw that,\u00a0we\u2019ve got to make sure you just don\u2019t force it.\u00a0We\u2019ve got a great running game, and just stay confident in yourself,\u201d Young said. \u201cIt\u2019s going to come eventually. We\u2019ve got a long season ahead, and we\u2019re going to have a successful season throwing the ball.\u00a0So just stay confident. It\u2019s going to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
