The Cleveland Browns would’ve had a case to make a kicking change before their Week 2 game against the Baltimore Ravens.<\/p>\n

In their opener, Andre Szmyt missed an extra point and a 36-yard field goal attempt. It was all the more painful because the Browns lost by a point, 17-16, to in-state rival Cincinnati.<\/p>\n

But on Tuesday, when a team would generally host kicker tryouts, the Browns hosted no one, according to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot<\/a>. That seems to mean that Szmyt is sticking around, at least for another week.<\/p>\n

Head coach Kevin Stefanski shared his thoughts on Szmyt during his press conference on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cAndre knows we trust him, knows that he\u2019s gotta come through for us in those moments. Those are kicks that we expect him to make and we expect him to come through for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Browns opted to keep Szmyt on the roster to open the season over veteran Dustin Hopkins, who had regressed in the recent past for Cleveland. Szmyt was also a lot cheaper to keep around.<\/p>\n

Szmyt was once the Lou Groza Award winner for nation’s best kicker as a freshman at Syracuse, but after a solid rest of his career for the Orange, Szmyt hadn’t kicked in a regular season NFL game until Sunday.<\/p>\n

Maybe the nerves got to him and he’ll be OK. Szmyt didn’t miss a kick in a preseason game.<\/p>\n

There also aren’t a ton of options. The Browns would be signing someone who was discarded by another team.<\/p>\n

For now, they’ve chosen to stick with Szmyt.<\/p>\n
