But again, that’s not the way any team should judge any player, especially a kicker. That’s not the way the 49ers judged Trey Lance, even after it cost three first-round picks to acquire him, once they had Brock Purdy on the roster. That’s not the way they’ve judged Dante Pettis, Trey Sermon, or any other number of high-draft choices who looked good on paper but fizzled in reality.

I give Shanahan and Lynch full credit for those recalibrations. Drafting is hard. Nobody gets it perfect. If you realized you’ve missed on something, don’t mess up the present by trying to justify an old, wrong decision.

But they definitely were messing with everything by sticking with Moody for as long as they did. The 49ers treated him like he was an established Pro Bowler, like any miss was just an aberration, every make was a justification, and any question about his job security after his latest wayward kick was not in sync with reality.

The 49ers treated Moody as though he had already proved himself. When, actually, he never did, and at least as a 49er, never will.“

49ers overreactions: Is Brock Purdy clutch or did he fuel national narrative?
“Both things can be true. Haters remain unimpressed. And Purdy continues to get results.

Yes, it does seem as if Purdy is held to an unusually high standard in which any imperfection — real or imagined — is fodder for the hot-take crowd.

With his two interceptions were also two touchdown passes.

And his 45-yard perfectly thrown pass to Ricky Pearsall set up the game-winning touchdown. It was a huge play at a perfect time on the all-or-nothing final drive.

There’s no denying he made some clutch plays and was the better quarterback on the field in Seattle.“

49ers minutia minute: Christian McCaffrey looks healthy despite injury scare (paywall)
“Williams was by far the busiest rookie lineman Sunday, rushing the passer on 19 snaps, playing run defense 17 times, and, strangely, dropping into coverage on three occasions. He was credited with one tackle (an assist) and no quarterback pressures.

Okuayinonu, meanwhile, was PFF’s highest graded 49er, no doubt due in large part to a pair of hustle plays in run defense, one in which he forced a critical fourth-quarter fumble. Bosa, Williams, Okuayinonu and Huff were the team’s defensive linemen on the Seahawks’ final snap when Bosa forced a Sam Darnold fumble.

It was a bit surprising that Gross-Matos played Sunday, considering he missed all of the spring practices, the vast majority of the summer sessions and was on hand for only Thursday’s practice, where he was limited, last week. Still, he tied Bosa in quarterback pressures, all of them while lining up at defensive tackle.“

49ers game review: Brock Purdy needs to harness his inner swashbuckler (paywall)
“Purdy’s passes both came on the 49ers’ opening drive as Fox announcers Joe Davis and Greg Olsen told viewers about Purdy’s offseason critique of his 2024 season: He tried to do too much when he was missing key skill-position weapons, and he needed to channel the quarterback who clinically executed the offense in his first two seasons.

A takeaway from the 49ers’ 17-13 win over Seattle: Purdy tried to do too much when he was missing key offensive weapons.“

Report: 49ers signing Eddy Piñeiro to replace Jake Moody“Piñeiro, 29, has a career record of 111 made field…

[2080
220,52307,7,6,1161,252,2624,2623
0":"post-356518","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-san-francisco-49ers","8":"tag-49ers","9":"tag-49ers-links","10":"tag-football","11":"tag-nfl","12":"tag-san-francisco","13":"tag-san-francisco-49ers","14":"tag-sanfrancisco","15":"tag-sanfrancisco49ers
["GET
