Report: 49ers signing Eddy Pi\u00f1eiro to replace Jake Moody<\/a>
\u201cPi\u00f1eiro, 29, has a career record of 111 made field goals on 126 attempts since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the then-Oakland Raiders in 2018. He has also successfully converted 116 of 126 extra point attempts.<\/p>\n

Pi\u00f1eiro most recently spent three seasons with the Carolina Panthers. In 2024, he made 22 of 26 field goal attempts and 33 of 35 extra points.\u201c<\/p>\n

I give Shanahan and Lynch full credit for those recalibrations. Drafting is hard. Nobody gets it perfect. If you realized you\u2019ve missed on something, don\u2019t mess up the present by trying to justify an old, wrong decision.<\/p>\n

But they definitely were messing with everything by sticking with Moody for as long as they did. The 49ers treated him like he was an established Pro Bowler, like any miss was just an aberration, every make was a justification, and any question about his job security after his latest wayward kick was not in sync with reality.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoth things can be true. Haters remain unimpressed. And Purdy continues to get results.<\/p>\n

Yes, it does seem as if Purdy is held to an unusually high standard in which any imperfection \u2014 real or imagined \u2014 is fodder for the hot-take crowd.<\/p>\n

With his two interceptions were also two touchdown passes.<\/p>\n

And his 45-yard perfectly thrown pass to Ricky Pearsall set up the game-winning touchdown. It was a huge play at a perfect time on the all-or-nothing final drive.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no denying he made some clutch plays and was the better quarterback on the field in Seattle.\u201c<\/p>\n

It was a bit surprising that Gross-Matos played Sunday, considering he missed all of the spring practices, the vast majority of the summer sessions and was on hand for only Thursday\u2019s practice, where he was limited, last week. Still, he tied Bosa in quarterback pressures, all of them while lining up at defensive tackle.\u201c<\/p>\n
