GREEN BAY \u2014 Matt LaFleur stopped short of ruling out two of his starting offensive linemen for Thursday night\u2019s matchup with the Washington Commanders at Lambeau Field, but the Green Bay Packers head coach certainly has a contingency plan if right tackle Zach Tom and left guard Aaron Banks can\u2019t give it a go.<\/p>\n
Both Tom, who suffered an oblique injury, and Banks, who is dealing with ankle and groin injuries, were listed as questionable for Thursday night\u2019s game after sustaining their injuries in Sunday\u2019s season-opening win over the Detroit Lions.<\/p>\n
The Packers did not have a traditional practice this week because of the quick turnaround, but according to the injury report, neither lineman would have taken part in any practices at all had there been any.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll give them all the way up to gametime to see where they\u2019re at,\u201d LaFleur said. \u201c. \u201cCertainly two guys that have a lot of experience, so I\u2019m not as concerned about them [not practicing]. There\u2019s no live reps this week [anyway].. We\u2019ll just see where we\u2019re at.\u201d<\/p>\n
If Tom doesn\u2019t play, Darian Kinnard, acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles at the end of training camp, is expected to start at right tackle. If Banks can\u2019t go, it\u2019ll be 2024 first-round pick Jordan Morgan at left guard.<\/p>\n
LaFleur said the injuries are \u201cnothing long-term,\u201d and it\u2019s unclear if Tom and\/or Banks would have been good to go by Sunday if this were a normal week.<\/p>\n
Melton, Cox ruled out | Two of the Packers\u2019 crucial special teams pieces, cornerback Bo Melton (shoulder) and defensive end Brenton Cox (groin) were ruled out Wednesday because of injuries sustained against the Lions.<\/p>\n
That might explain why special-teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia was curt and seemingly annoyed during his weekly Q&A session with reporters on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t mess with those injuries too much,\u201d a perturbed Bisaccia said. \u201cWe\u2019ll see who shows up and plays in the game.<\/p>\n
The Packers also listed defensive end Micah Parsons (back), cornerback Nate Hobbs (knee) and safety Zayne Anderson (knee) as questionable, although Parsons made it clear during the week that he will play. Hobbs and Anderson, who both sustained knee injuries in camp, were inactive against the Lions.<\/p>\n
Reed good to go | One name that was not on the report Wednesday was wide receiver Jayden Reed, who caught three passes for 45 yards, including a 17-yard touchdown, in the win over Detroit.<\/p>\n
Reed is playing through a painful Jones fracture in his left foot and has been limited in practice in hopes of resting the foot enough for him to be effective on game day. He certainly was on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe good thing now is, he\u2019s at the point of his career \u2014 it\u2019s his third year \u2014 so it\u2019s not like he\u2019s a rookie and you\u2019re like, \u2018OK, we have to get you reps; otherwise we don\u2019t know what you\u2019re going to do,\u2019\u201d Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich said. \u201cHe\u2019s been around, he\u2019s smart, he studies, he\u2019s helping coach guys on the sideline when he\u2019s not out there, being a leader.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s got a good mental side of the game now where you can tell him stuff and he\u2019ll just know what to do. So, that gives you a little comfort as a coach.\u201d<\/p>\n
