The deal — which \u201ccould be announced as soon as\u201d next week — \u201cculminates more than a year of\u202fgrueling, often contentious negotiations.\u201d Sources say the agreement \u201ccalls for a 10-year lease followed by four 5-year extensions, with the Saints retaining the right to exercise each extension.\u201d If all the extensions are agreed upon, it \u201cwould run through 2055.\u201d The deal \u201cadds a new provision — absent from the Saints\u2019 current lease — requiring arbitration and potential \u2018equitable damages,\u2019\u201d measures \u201cdesigned to discourage any future owner from moving the team out of New Orleans.\u201d The \u201cexact amount of that relocation penalty hasn\u2019t been finalized, but the sources said it could reach\u201d $250M.<\/p>\n
