FRISCO \u2014 Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams<\/a> said during a Thursday news conference that he wants more from the running game.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would say there were moments where we kinda looked like we knew what we were doing,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s some moments where we\u2019d like to build on what was happening and then ultimately when we needed to run the ball to win the game, we couldn\u2019t do that, and that was pretty disappointing at the end.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the Cowboys\u2019 season-opening loss to the Eagles<\/a>, starting running back Javonte Williams rushed for 54 yards with two touchdowns. Overall, the Cowboys picked up 119 yards with a 5.4 average. There was also a 49-yard run by backup Miles Sanders, prompting Adams to praise a downfield block by right tackle Terence Steele during the play.<\/p>\n

The advanced stats of the run game offered positives. The team\u2019s success percentage was 59.1 %, second-highest after Week 1, and team rushing yards over expected was plus-40, sixth-best. <\/p>\n

Adams has high standards for his group. There was a third-quarter fumble by Sanders at the Eagles\u2019 10 in the third quarter and two runs of 10-plus yards, a number the Cowboys would like to see increase.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom a teaching perspective, there\u2019s a ton of great stuff on tape, where you go all right, we need to make sure this doesn\u2019t happen again or we can build off what happened here,\u201d he said. \u201cIn regards to the guys knowing what they\u2019re supposed to do, I was pleased with that, but we just need to execute a little bit better.\u201d<\/p>\n

The season opener was also the debut of rookie right guard Tyler Booker. It was also an opportunity to see left tackle Tyler Guyton showcase his skills after missing a majority of training camp with a fractured bone and sprained ligament in his knee. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was encouraged by it,\u201d Adams said. \u201cI think it\u2019s one of those situations, you look at and you go all right, I see flashes of what we want to be when we grow up. We\u2019re a long way from where we want to be.\u201d<\/p>\n
