SANTA CLARA \u2014 There might be some uncertainty as to who will be able to suit up for the 49ers’ Week 2 matchup against the New Orleans Saints, but there is overwhelming consensus in the locker room of Mac Jones’ popularity<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Brock Purdy sat out of a second straight practice<\/a> on Thursday with a left shoulder and toe injury, further indicating that Jones will be the starter facing the Saints on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With Jones taking all of the reps with the first team offense, there has been much discussion about the signal-caller’s command of the huddle and personality in the locker room. It’s incredibly clear that there’s no lack of confidence with the change under center, with the comments about the Alabama product being overwhelmingly positive.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When right guard Dominick Puni<\/a> was asked about Jones\u2019 temperament, a huge smile immediately washed over his face as he discussed the quarterback.<\/p>\n

\u201cMac Jones has been great,\u201d Puni said. \u201cWe love Mac Jones as an offense, and as a team. He\u2019s just a dude. He comes into the training room, the locker room and chats with all of us. He loves hanging out with the O-line and I think that\u2019s awesome. I can\u2019t wait to play with him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s just one of the guys. He\u2019s a funny dude. He\u2019s always locked in. He goes out in practice and just spins the ball perfectly, always throwing spirals all the time. He\u2019s just a great guy and someone you would want in your corner.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jauan Jennings and Trent Williams both were seen working on the side field with the team\u2019s medical staff, but did not participate in practice, which is a step forward from Wednesday where neither were seen outside.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Christian McCaffrey and Nick Bosa both returned after taking Wednesday off.\u00a0<\/p>\n
