Ahead of Thursday night\u2019s Packers-Commanders game, the NFL held a moment of silence for Kirk, who was fatally shot at an event in Utah on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\ud83d\udea8\ud83d\udea8BREAKING\ud83d\udea8\ud83d\udea8<\/p>\n<p>THE <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NFL?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#NFL<\/a> JUST HELD A MOMENT OF SILENCE IN HONOR OF CHARLIE KIRK AND HIS LEGACY BEFORE TONIGHT\u2019S <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/PACKERS?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#PACKERS<\/a>\u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/COMMANDERS?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#COMMANDERS<\/a> GAME.<\/p>\n<p>The American Flags at Lambeau Field were also at half-staff in honor of Kirk, after he was assassinated yesterday.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/z0JbzrJ22e\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/z0JbzrJ22e<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 MLFootball (@_MLFootball) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/_MLFootball\/status\/1966292678704046408?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">September 12, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The NFL explained its decision to honor Kirk on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast night\u2019s moment was the league\u2019s decision. It\u2019s up to the clubs for this Sunday\u2019s games.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere have been a variety of moments of silence and tributes in-stadium and on-air in all games or a game immediately following events that rise to a national level. Clubs also often hold moments following a tragic event that affects their community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NFL made sure to point out that they have held moments of silence during other tragedies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere have been moments following school shootings or an attack on a house of worship such as the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh in 2018. There also have been moments following major international incidents such as Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023 and weather-related incidents such as major hurricanes and fires. This is in addition to honoring those in the NFL family from tributes to recently passed players or personnel, or a player such as Damar Hamlin in 2023.
