Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys sent shockwaves around the NFL<\/a> world when the news came down that they were trading star pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers last month.<\/p>\n

After several loyal years of service to the Star, the situation between Micah and the Cowboys ultimately became untenable once contract negotiations devolved into public personal shots and a social media trade request was filed.<\/p>\n

Parsons was a Pro Bowler in all four of his seasons in Dallas where he made two All-Pro<\/a> teams, finished runner-up in Defensive Player of the Year voting and took home Rookie of the Year honors in 2021.<\/p>\n

That type of production doesn’t come just any defensive end that’s still under the age of 30. And because of that, Jones was reportedly eyeing a trade package centered around another one of the league’s best on the defensive side of the ball.<\/p>\n

Jerry Jones teases Jets trade<\/p>\n

Appearing on ESPN New York with Gary Myers ahead of Sunday’s game vs. the Giants, Jerry revealed that he called the Jets about potentially sending Micah to the Big Apple; saying that he wanted to make a deal centered around former No. 3 pick Quinnen Williams.<\/p>\n

Jones said that NY “didn’t have the resources” to facilitate such a deal for the Cowboys to land the run-stuffing D-tackle they so-coveted, so ultimately talks fell through. But Dallas was still able to land a Pro Bowl DT in Kenny Clark \u2014 along with two first-round draft picks in 2026 and 2027, respectively.<\/p>\n

“There was a communication with one of those [New York] teams. And, as it would turn out, I initiated that with one of the teams, and you can guess that it was not the Giants,” Jerry chuckled<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“It was a very good, brief visit. We had to have a significant, dominant, inside defensive player to address the run. [The Jets just frankly didn’t have the resources to entertain conversations].”<\/p>\n

Cowboys got ‘no traction’ with AFC teams<\/p>\n

According to a report from FOX’s Jay Glazer last week, the Cowboys weren’t able to make much headway with AFC<\/a> teams during trade negotiations and ultimately received the best deal from arguably their biggest rival.<\/p>\n

However, the Packers were steady in their commitment to get a deal done and they ultimately were able to come out victorious due to their persistence and the inclusion of Clark.<\/p>\n

“The team that actually threw in the biggest offer was the Philadelphia Eagles. For two ones, a three, a five, amongst other things,” Glazer shared<\/a> on Week 2’s pregame show. “Obviously didn’t want to trade him in the division. But the Green Bay Packers, they chimed-in early, they kept with it, and Kenny Clark is what made the difference for Dallas.”<\/p>\n

So far Micah is already proving to be a massive pickup for Matt LaFleur’s team, providing three tackles, 1.5 sacks and four QB hits in limited action over his first two games.<\/p>\n
