THE NFL has made a decision surrounding tributes to Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n

Following Kirk’s assassination on Wednesday, teams will be allowed to individually decide whether or not to pay tribute to him.<\/p>\n

Kirk was assassinated on Wednesday in UtahCredit: Reuters<\/p>\n

The Green Bay Packers<\/a> kicked off Week 2 of the NFL<\/a> season by holding a moment of silence for Kirk.<\/p>\n

“The National Football League asks that you please join us in a moment of silent reflection following the murder of Charlie Kirk,” the Lambeau PA announcer said. <\/p>\n

“The NFL condemns all violence in our communities. It will take all of us to stop hate. Thank you.”<\/p>\n

That moment of silence was dictated by the league, but going forward it will be up to individual teams to decide whether or not to hold a moment of silence.<\/p>\n

“Last night\u2019s moment was the league\u2019s decision,” a statement from the NFL said.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s up to the clubs for this Sunday\u2019s games. <\/p>\n

“There have been a variety of moments of silence and tributes in-stadium and on-air in all games or a game immediately following events that rise to a national level. <\/p>\n

“Clubs also often hold moments following a tragic event that affects their community.<\/p>\n

“There have been moments following school shootings or an attack on a house of worship such as the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh in 2018. <\/p>\n

“There also have been moments following major international incidents such as Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023 and weather-related incidents such as major hurricanes and fires.”<\/p>\n

The NFL has held plenty of moments of silence in recent memory, including tributes to the LA Fires and the plane crashes near Washington DC and Philadelphia in the past year.<\/p>\n

Tributes have also been held for other high profile figures, such as Kobe Bryant<\/a> and the other passengers in his helicopter crash.<\/p>\n

The NFL wasn’t the only league to hold a moment of silence for Kirk.<\/p>\n

The New York Yankees of MLB<\/a> held a moment of silence for Kirk on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Kirk was shot in the neck while speaking at a rally at Utah Valley University.<\/p>\n

He was taken to the hospital before being pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

Kirk was 31 years old and left behind a wife and two children.<\/p>\n
