The story heading into Saturday\u2019s 41-35 win over Arkansas was the quarterback situation for Ole Miss with Austin Simmons<\/a> dealing with an ankle injury.<\/p>\n

Simmons ended up not starting, giving way to backup Trinidad Chambliss<\/a>, but did make an appearance late in the first half. He ran on his first play of the drive, when Chambliss cut his finger and had to come out, re-aggravating the ankle injury.<\/p>\n

He capped the drive with a touchdown pass but did not return for the rest of the game.<\/p>\n

During his Sunday Zoom session with local Ole Miss media head coach Lane Kiffin<\/a> noted he had not seen Simmons yet but had spoken with trainers throughout the day.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have not seen Austin, yet, today. I\u2019ve been up here with the film and watching (Tulane),\u201d Kiffin said. \u201cAs you saw he re-aggravated it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kiffin then gave what his initial thoughts were in the moment coming back out for the second half on if Austin would have been available had he not suffered the setback in the first half. <\/p>\n

\u201cIf we had to go to somebody based off how I walked out of the locker room at halftime with him and he just looked like it was really struggling,\u201d Kiffin added. \u201cSo I don\u2019t think I would have put him in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though the sixth-year Ole Miss coach did provide a positive note about Simmons, giving a outlook of \u201cfine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t see Austin today. Talking to do the doctors today and x-rays, I think Austin\u2019s going to be fine,\u201d Kiffin said.<\/p>\n

Chambliss finished with over 350 passing yards and a touchdown along with two touchdown on the ground and a team-leading 62 rushing yards.<\/p>\n

In his first Southeastern Conference start, Chambliss not only had a career night on the field he impressed Kiffin with his demeanor.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe TV copy plays on the TVs here the next day, always.
