{"id":378136,"date":"2025-09-18T16:48:12","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T16:48:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/378136\/"},"modified":"2025-09-18T16:48:12","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T16:48:12","slug":"ian-oconnor-described-the-roadblocks-he-faced-while-writing-his-bill-belichick-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/378136\/","title":{"rendered":"Ian O\u2019Connor described the roadblocks he faced while writing his Bill Belichick book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;It made me more determined than ever to write a definitive biography on him without his cooperation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1758214092_644_image\" alt=\"https:\/\/img.particlenews.com\/image.php?url=1DmwWg_14rMuSpm00\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\"\/>Bill Belichick after Super Bowl Loss to the Eagles in 2018 (Mark Humphrey).<\/p>\n<p>1 minute to read<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, Ian O\u2019Connor wrote \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Belichick-Making-Greatest-Football-Coach\/dp\/0544785746\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Belichick: The Making of the Greatest Football Coach of All Time<\/a>,\u201d a biography about long-time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/tag\/new-england-patriots\/?p1=header_subnav\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Patriots<\/a> head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/?s=bill+belichick\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Belichick<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">A<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times<\/a> bestseller, the book takes readers through Belichick\u2019s life, from getting into football as a kid to winning his five (at the time) Super Bowls with the Patriots.<\/p>\n<p>However, Belichick didn\u2019t make writing this book easy for O\u2019Connor. He discussed his difficulties surrounding this with Andrew Marchand, a sports columnist for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Athletic<\/a>, on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.andrewmarchand.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marchand\u2019s podcast<\/a> Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Connor explains how Belichick tried to prevent people from talking with him, using the many connections he has around the league. <\/p>\n<p>With Belichick being known for not being talkative with the press, O\u2019Connor wasn\u2019t surprised that he made life hard for him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew Belichick would go out and campaign against my book\u201d, O\u2019Connor told Marchand. \u201cAnd have people call many, many friends and associates and tell them not to talk to me\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>Whether related or not, O\u2019Connor has had controversy with Belichick in the past.
