{"id":379989,"date":"2025-09-19T10:10:16","date_gmt":"2025-09-19T10:10:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/379989\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T10:10:16","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T10:10:16","slug":"commanders-fans-think-andrew-wylie-is-the-key-to-fixing-what-ails-the-offensive-line-right-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/379989\/","title":{"rendered":"Commanders fans think Andrew Wylie is the key to fixing what ails the offensive line right now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hogshaven.com\/washington-commanders-reacts\/376563\/commanders-reacts-survey-fixing-the-right-side-of-the-offensive-line\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">this week\u2019s Reacts survey<\/a>, we focused on two topics: Commanders fan confidence and fixing the right side of the offensive line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Washington fans enjoyed some of the highest levels of confidence in the NFL for the first two weeks of the season according to SB Nation\u2019s Reacts surveys.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The ugly loss to the Packers on Thursday Night Football, with its attendant long list of injuries to key players, eroded that confidence quite significantly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Prior to that game, confidence among those responding to the Hogs Haven survey stood at 98%. This week, it has fallen to 71%.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"_1eezmj01\" href=\"https:\/\/platform.hogshaven.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2025\/09\/temp-reacts-confidence-w3.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;crop=0,0,100,100\" data-pswp-height=\"1188\" data-pswp-width=\"2514\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\"><img alt=\"\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"fill\" class=\"w91vxg0\" style=\"position:absolute;height:100%;width:100%;left:0;top:0;right:0;bottom:0;color:transparent;background-size:cover;background-position:50% 50%;background-repeat:no-repeat;background-image:url(&quot;data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg' %3E%3Cfilter id='b' color-interpolation-filters='sRGB'%3E%3CfeGaussianBlur stdDeviation='20'\/%3E%3CfeColorMatrix values='1 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 100 -1' result='s'\/%3E%3CfeFlood x='0' y='0' width='100%25' height='100%25'\/%3E%3CfeComposite operator='out' in='s'\/%3E%3CfeComposite in2='SourceGraphic'\/%3E%3CfeGaussianBlur stdDeviation='20'\/%3E%3C\/filter%3E%3Cimage width='100%25' height='100%25' x='0' y='0' preserveAspectRatio='none' style='filter: url(%23b);' href='data:image\/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAEAAAABCAQAAAC1HAwCAAAAC0lEQVR42mN8+R8AAtcB6oaHtZcAAAAASUVORK5CYII='\/%3E%3C\/svg%3E&quot;)\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/temp-reacts-confidence-w3.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">In answer to our other confidence-related question, only 3% of respondents this week said that they feel better about the team now than they did just before the season; 97% said they feel about the same or worse than they did before the season opening game against the Giants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">With a 1-1 record, comprising two games in which the offense has looked out-of-sorts, and with a gimpy quarterback, two starters out for the season, and several other key players questionable for the Week 3 game against the Raiders, this drop in confidence is no surprise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">More concerning might be the fact that the Commanders staff appeared to be badly out-coached by the Green Bay coaching staff. Washington looked un-prepared for the game and never seemed to make any effective adjustments to the game plan when things got off to a rocky start.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">While it may feel as if the season is in danger of unraveling, thing could be worse. This isn\u2019t really new; Dallas fans\u2019 confidence was at just 35% ahead of the first game of the season, weighed down, no doubt, by the trade of Micah Parsons to Green Bay just days before the poll. Watching Parsons tear through the Commanders offensive line on Thursday night must\u2019ve been almost as painful for Cowboys supporters as it was for Commanders fans.<\/p>\n<p>Washington\u2019s Offensive line<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Speaking of that offensive line getting ripped up by the Packers, in our survey this week, we asked what the solution is to the issues that are currently plaguing the right side of the offensive line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Consider what was written about Washington\u2019s right guard and right tackle in this week\u2019s Stats &amp; Snaps article:<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup _1teeyfa8 ls9zuh1\">RG Nick Allegretti gave up 6 total pressures, including a sack and a QB hit (10.7% Pressure Rate). Even giving the hit back to Biadasz doesn\u2019t make that look good. Starting guards should allow pressure on fewer than 3% of dropbacks. According to PFF, he was the second best run blocker on the OL (grade 68.0). Allegretti was penalized 10 yds for holding in the first quarter, and 5 yards for a false start near the end of the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup _1teeyfa8 ls9zuh1\">Rookie RT Josh Conerly took the brunt of the Packers\u2019 pass rush, surrendering 5 hurries, 1 QB hit and 3 sacks, for an alarmingly high 16.1% Pressure Rate. He performed much better last week against a formidable Giants\u2019 pass rush. Rookie OTs typically give up a lot of pressure, even those who go on to become quality starters. But his performance this week should raise warning flags, and it would not be surprising if adjustments are made. His run blocking graded better at 67.6. Most who wanted to turn to Wylie at RT seemed to see it as a temporary move to give the rookie some breathing space and time to develop, while some others thought that Conerly should move inside to right guard for the moment. Nearly everyone seemed to believe that Conerly would be settle in as the starting right tackle in the medium- to long-term.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">In the short term, a lot of people are concerned about the next challenge in Conerly\u2019s early trial-by-fire. Having faced off against New York\u2019s impressive array of defensive linemen in Week 1 and Micah Parsons in Week 2, Conerly is now set to face Maxx Crosby \u2014 one of the NFL\u2019s most fearsome edge players \u2014 in Week 3<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Despite whatever gloom Commanders fans may be feeling, the broader NFL fan base seems to still have confidence in the team. In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hogshaven.com\/375832\/nfl-power-rankings-washington-commanders-stay-in-the-top-10-after-a-rough-loss\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">this week\u2019s Power Rankings<\/a>, the Commanders averaged a #10 ranking (with no ranking lower than #13). While I, personally, have a lot of confidence in Sean McVay\u2019s team to get the road win, they are 3.5-point underdogs according to current betting odds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The Cowboys are also predicted winners in the SB Nation poll. They are on the road to Chicago, and are slight 1.5-point favorites. I think the Cowboys will dispatch the Bears pretty handily.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The only NFC East team that is projected to lose in our SB Nation national email survey is the NY Giants, who are 6.5-point underdogs at home to the 0-2 Kansas City team who will show up to Met Life Stadium hungry for a win.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">It appears as if this Week 3 game against the Raiders is important for many reason.
