always taken pride in his roots<\/a>\u00a0and Ingvalson expects Prosser to return the favor with a strong contingent when the Saints face Seattle at Lumen Field on Sunday. Moore’s still seeking his first win after a pair of close home losses to Arizona and San Francisco.<\/p>\n“He’s obviously connected to the program and maybe our most famous guy that’s ever played here,” Prosser coach Corey Ingvalson said. “So we’ll be cheering him on.”<\/p>\n
Ingvalson won’t be attending the game but said Kellen would understand, since his father, Tom, established the tradition of Prosser coaches meetings on Sundays. That staff included Ingvalson for Kellen Moore’s senior season, which began with a trip to what was then known as Qwest Field in Seattle.<\/p>\n
Moore threw for 407 yards and seven touchdowns to lead Prosser to a 69-7 win over Southridge, kicking off one of the most prolific years ever by a Washington state high school quarterback. He racked up 4,600 yards and 67 touchdowns for the 12-1 Mustangs, both WIAA records at the time.<\/p>\n
Like the current Prosser head coach, Tom Moore has a superseding responsibly above attending Sunday’s game: grandparent duty. Tom’s in New Orleans, where he’s watched his oldest son’s first two games as a head coach between Saturday trips to Columbia, Mo., on where his youngest, Kirby, is the offensive coordinator for the Missouri Tigers. Kellen’s wife Julie, also a Prosser grad, will be part of a sizeable cheering section in Lumen on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Kellen Moore never played in Washington during an NCAA record-setting 50-3 career at Boise State, although he attended the famous “Beast Quake” NFC wildcard game as a fan in January 2011 shortly after carrying the Broncos to a 26-3 bowl win over Utah. The former Washington State Gatorade player of the Year also never traveled back to Seattle during a six-year NFL career spent primarily as a backup quarterback for Detroit and Dallas.<\/p>\n
Moore finally returned to Lumen (then CenturyLink) Field as the Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks coach in 2018, when the Seahawks beat the Cowboys 24-13. Moore got promoted to offensive coordinator a year later at the age of 30 and the Cowboys put up 522 yards of total offense the next time they returned to Seattle in 2020, but they still lost 38-31 thanks to Russell Wilson’s five touchdown passes.<\/p>\n
Dallas parted ways with Moore following the 2022 season and he spent a year with the Los Angeles Chargers before winning Super Bowl LIX as the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s eager to go back to Washington for his first road game as a head coach and he spoke highly of new Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, as well as wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.<\/p>\n
“I think the world of him,” Moore said. “He’s just done a really good job and then you add Cooper Kupp in there and now that receiver room just has some really high football IQ and they can do a number of things.”<\/p>\n
Kupp began his standout Yakima Valley career at Davis two years after Moore graduated, the same year Tom Moore reached his eighth state title game in his final season at Prosser. But even though they wouldn’t cross paths until both of them had reached the NFL, Kellen’s name was already familiar to Kupp and many other football fans throughout the Valley.<\/p>\n
“I remember every Saturday morning, waking up, seeing what Cody Bruns and Kellen Moore went for at Prosser because they were just lighting it up,” Kupp said. “It’s been really cool to see him. He’s just such a great dude.
