They signed 27-year-old former first-round pick Sam Darnold to a three-year, $105 million deal in free agency. They reunited with 28-year-old backup Drew Lock. And in the NFL Draft, they took a third-round lottery ticket on Alabama dual-threat quarterback Jalen Milroe.<\/p>\n
Darnold, who experienced a breakout 2024 campaign with the Minnesota Vikings, is the presumptive starter for 2025. However, his contract is a team-friendly deal that could give Seattle the flexibility to move on after one or two years. That could come into play if Milroe \u2013 who\u2019s widely considered to be a multi-year development project \u2013 makes enough strides as a passer<\/a> to complement his tantalizing athleticism as a runner.<\/p>\n With that as the backdrop, Seattle Sports\u2019 Mike Salk<\/a> posed a point-blank question to NFL Network\u2019s Daniel Jeremiah<\/a> during Wednesday\u2019s edition of Brock and Salk.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u201cDo you think the Seahawks\u2019 next franchise quarterback \u2013 and I\u2019m talking about the next guy on this team who will win multiple playoff games and be considered a franchise quarterback, however you choose to define that \u2013 do you think they\u2019re currently on this roster?\u201d Salk asked.<\/p>\n Jeremiah paused for a moment before answering.<\/p>\n \u201cI think the fact that there\u2019s a pause there probably is not great in terms of the confidence, but I think they can win playoff games with Sam Darnold,\u201d Jeremiah said. \u201cI do. I think Sam\u2019s good enough to do that. I think they\u2019ve put the right things in place around him. \u2026 I mean, I don\u2019t think what he did last year was a fluke. I know the way it ended was not what anybody wanted to see. But I still think the ability is in there for him to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n That being said, Jeremiah isn\u2019t sure whether the Seahawks can win a Super Bowl with Darnold.<\/p>\n \u201cI also have always talked about the confetti test: Do you have a quarterback on your roster that you can imagine the confetti falling on him?\u201d Jeremiah said. \u201cI don\u2019t know that they have that guy.\u201d<\/p>\n Salk then asked whether he envisions Milroe ultimately developing into a franchise QB for Seattle.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t,\u201d Jeremiah said. \u201cI just think there\u2019s so much distance to travel in the pass game. But I mean, hey, let\u2019s see where it all goes. I know there\u2019s a lot of raw stuff in there, a lot of ability in there.
