Let’s take a closer look at each of the Jaguars’ UDFAs. Up next is Oklahoma DE Ethan Downs.<\/p>\n

In addition to their nine draft picks, the\u00a0Jacksonville Jaguars signed<\/a>\u00a022 undrafted rookies as well, following the 2025 NFL draft.<\/p>\n

Just as we did with\u00a0each of the nine selections<\/a>, let’s take a closer look at each of the\u00a0Jaguars<\/a>‘ UDFAs. Up next is Oklahoma defensive end Ethan Downs.<\/p>\n

Ethan Downs’ profile<\/p>\n

Downs played 1,833 career defensive snaps at Oklahoma, which includes averaging over 500 snaps in each of the last three seasons. By PFF’s metrics, Downs has been sound both as a pass rusher and in defending the run.<\/p>\n

From 2022 through 2024, Downs averaged 29 pressures and just under five sacks per season. In 2024 specifically, Downs ranked 104th out of all FBS defensive ends in pass rush win rate, and he was 88th in PFF’s run defense grade<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Also of note, Downs played 382 career special teams snaps and did so across five different phases.<\/p>\n

Scouting report<\/p>\n

Lance Zierlein: <\/a>“Downs looks physically outmatched before the snap, but once the leverage and play strength kick in, perceptions change. He plays with a strong base and is tougher than leather at the point of attack, but he lacks length and has a hard time getting off of blocks. His rush is fueled by effort and bend, but he\u2019s not quick enough to beat tackles to the edge and sees his rush stall out by long tackles who strike and cinch him up. Downs is tough like a five-technique, but he might need to align wide in an even front or stand as a strong-side 3-4 outside linebacker.”<\/p>\n

They said it<\/p>\n

\u201cDowns\u2019 ability to set the edge is a notable strength of his game, and it\u2019s an area in which he\u2019s continually improved over the course of his collegiate career,\u201d Parker Thune of Rivals.com said via Packers Wire<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s not going to be easily moved off the line of scrimmage, and he\u2019s typically able to shed blocks quickly and either narrow or clog running lanes. If given a window to blow up a play in the backfield, rarely will Downs over-pursue and miss the tackle.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thune would add: \u201cAs a pass rusher, Downs has the ability to win with power or with finesse,\u201d Thune said. \u201cHe\u2019s not the fastest or most \u201cbendy\u201d rusher, but he\u2019s well above average in both departments. He\u2019s attentive to technique and demonstrates an astute understanding of leverage, which is a necessity for any defensive end with a minus wingspan.\u201d<\/p>\n
