FRISCO \u2014 Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus<\/a> said Thursday he\u2019s changed some of the signals in the secondary to make things simpler.<\/p>\n

Eberflus said one call will be used for the entire secondary instead of using multiple calls for different sides of the field.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think you do a one-word thing,\u201d he said. \u201cThat means the whole call and that helps out and we\u2019re doing some of that and the guys are buying into that. I think it\u2019s important the guys hear (one) word.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Cowboys\u2019 secondary has given up 13 pass plays of 20 or more yards this season,<\/a> including 12 in the last two games. Of the 13 pass plays, five have gone for touchdowns. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a lot of checks,\u201d cornerback Kaiir Elam said. \u201cWe all had to be on the same page and we had to communicate it before the offense said hike. So it\u2019s just, for him, he\u2019s just trying to dumb it down for us so we don\u2019t have to communicate to change things. So one side of the field is playing one thing, and the other is playing another. It\u2019s all one call.\u201d<\/p>\n

The objective of making both sides of the field do the same thing could vary based on the matchup, but right now, given the struggles of the secondary and linebackers, it\u2019s time to make some changes. <\/p>\n

\u201cMake sure both sides have no reason to not execute and do their jobs,\u201d Elam said.<\/p>\n
