{"id":40546,"date":"2025-05-11T02:11:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-11T02:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/40546\/"},"modified":"2025-05-11T02:11:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-11T02:11:10","slug":"experts-take-nussmeiers-chances-of-going-no-1-in-nfl-draft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/40546\/","title":{"rendered":"Expert&#8217;s Take: Nussmeier&#8217;s chances of going No. 1 in NFL Draft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/garrett-nussmeier-45029\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Garrett Nussmeier<\/a>\u00a0is entering his final season at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/lsu-tigers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LSU<\/a>, and ESPN analyst\u00a0Rece Davis\u00a0expects it to be a good one. <\/p>\n<p>On the\u00a0College GameDay\u00a0Podcast, Davis made a bold prediction about Nussmeier\u2019s future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think [the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft] might end up being Nussmeier,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/vyC5PvOfqBE?si=T96SUcD3MMI0fIUH\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Davis said.<\/a>\u00a0\u201cIt comes out hot and nice with that cat. It just pops off his hand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last season was Nussmeier\u2019s first as LSU\u2019s full-time starting QB. In 13 starts, he completed 337-of-his-525 (64.2%) pass attempts for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns compared to just 12 interceptions. Nussmeier also recorded three rushing TDs.<\/p>\n<p>He finished the season strong, completing 24-of-34 passes for 313 yards and three touchdowns in LSU\u2019s 44-31 win over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/baylor-bears\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Baylor<\/a>\u00a0in the Texas Bowl. Davis believes Nussmeier possesses rare talent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNussmeier might be one of those super gifted guys,\u201d Davis said. \u201cBut I also think that probably both LSU this year and whatever NFL team gets him, they\u2019re going to have some \u2018Why did he throw that\u2019 moments because of the supreme confidence he has in his ability to make those throws and I actually love that kind of guy. I think he\u2019s terrific. He\u2019s fun to watch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, Nussmeier boasts solid size and has a powerful arm. Rece Davis is far from the only expert who believes Nussmeier could have a bright future at the next level.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, NFL expert Todd McShay projected Nussmeier to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. FOX Sports\u2019 Joel Klatt also has high expectations for the Tigers\u2019 QB.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGarrett Nussmeier is going to be one of the top picks in the NFL Draft,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/garrett-nussmeier-45029\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Klatt said.<\/a>\u00a0\u201cI believe in him. Second year as a starter, fifth in the program. He sat behind Jayden Daniels. He\u2019s seen it done at a high level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Individual success isn\u2019t at the top of Nussmeier\u2019s priorities. In March, Nussmeier discussed his focus on LSU\u2019s team success heading into the 2025 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m worried about doing the best I can to help LSU win a national championship,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/lsu-tigers\/news\/garrett-nussmeier-on-lsu-expectations-we-expect-to-play-football-in-january\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nussmeier said.<\/a>\u00a0\u201cThat\u2019s the mindset, that\u2019s the energy and intensity that I bring every single day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not about me, it\u2019s not about the transition or the Year 2 (jump), it\u2019s about LSU football and Year 4 under coach Kelly, what are we going to do?
