{"id":408140,"date":"2025-09-30T05:50:21","date_gmt":"2025-09-30T05:50:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/408140\/"},"modified":"2025-09-30T05:50:21","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T05:50:21","slug":"football-world-reacts-to-giants-owner-john-maras-cancer-diagnosis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/408140\/","title":{"rendered":"Football world reacts to Giants owner John Mara&#8217;s cancer diagnosis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The football world stood behind Giants co-owner John Mara after he revealed his cancer diagnosis on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/29\/sports\/giants-owner-john-mara-reveals-cancer-diagnosis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mara made the surprise announcement<\/a> in a statement, saying that he had \u201crecently been diagnosed with cancer\u201d and that he was \u201cfeeling strong and optimistic, and I\u2019m committed to seeing this through to a positive outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The news led to an outpouring of support for Mara, including from several former members of the Giants organization.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSending strength, support, and prayers to John Mara. Your leadership and grit inspire everyone around you. No one fights cancer alone. It takes a team and always proud to be on yours,\u201d former two-time Super Bowl-winning Giants coach <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/tcjayfund\/status\/1972790884619133358\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Tom Coughlin said in a statement.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Former Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora recalled Mara\u2019s kindness when he suffered a knee injury that knocked him out for the 2008 season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly one person from the Organisation came to the hospital to see me. John Mara,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/OsiUmenyiora\/status\/1972750465185292662\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">he wrote in a post on X. <\/a>\u201cI couldn\u2019t believe it was him, I just started crying. And he just sat there until I fell asleep. Didn\u2019t say a word. He will beat this for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.45661451;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37248896\" width=\"859\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/new-york-giants-owner-john-112055070_a34a1e.jpg\" alt=\"New York Giants owner John Mara speaking with quarterback Jaxson Dart during football practice.\" class=\"wp-image-37248896\"  \/> Noah K.
