(WSMV) – The Tennessee Titans continue to look for any spark to ignite what’s been a tough start to the season. It seems like there might be some help on the way for the 0-4 bunch.

Running back Tyjae Spears was designated to return to practice from injured reserve (IR) this week.

Spears suffered an ankle injury in the preseason. He was placed on injured reserve shortly afterwards, on August 26, to be exact.

The injury meant the three-year veteran would spend the first four weeks of the season on the sidelines. His placement on IR also left sole-rushing duties to veteran Tony Pollard.

Spears’ return comes at a much-needed time for the Titans offense, which has mustered only three touchdowns this season and is currently 29th in the NFL in rushing yards.

It’s safe to say Cam Ward and company are going through a rough patch right now; it’s something Spears knows all too well.

“You know, adversity is never really easy, but like I said, it became my friend. I’ve been through two ACLs, so just taking it one day at a time and being as optimistic as I can,” Spears said while speaking to the media on Wednesday.

Here are instructions on how to watch WSMV4 live on various platforms.

Rookie quarterback Cam Ward was also asked how he feels about Spears return.

“It’s going to be able to boost our offense a lot just from what he can do now, obviously in the running game, but just in the check-down game, giving him the ball in space. I’ve been waiting for play with Tyjae (Spears), I’m ready,” Ward said.

Spears had 84 carries for 312 yards and four touchdowns last season. He also caught 30 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown.

“We were very much looking forward to seeing how he could help us on offense. He brings an explosive element and a change of pace that is going to be good for us. So, hoping to get him involved as quickly as possible and as much as he can handle,” said head coach Brian Callahan.

The Titans have 21 days to activate him to the 53-man roster. While seeing number two out there was a sight for sore eyes, it’s still in question whether or not Spears will participate in any capacity in Sunday’s matchup in Arizona.

Copyright 2025 WSMV.
