Week 5 is shaping up to be one of the most important waiver wire weeks of the season, so we break down the top pickups you need to target.<\/p>\n

For the second consecutive week, NFL fans will be treated to a battle of NFC West teams on “Thursday Night Football,” as the Los Angeles Rams<\/a> host the San Francisco 49ers.<\/p>\n

Once again, bettors will have a keen eye on this game as they try to find advantages amid a slew of 49ers injuries.<\/p>\n

San Francisco is supremely beat up entering its “TNF” game against the Rams. Brock Purdy<\/a> (toe) has been ruled out and Mac Jones<\/a> will start the game, while several of the 49ers’ receivers \u2013 including Ricky Pearsall<\/a> and Jauan Jennings<\/a> \u2013 have also been ruled out tonight.<\/p>\n

Add in the already major absences of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk<\/a>, tight end George Kittle<\/a> and defensive end Nick Bosa<\/a>, and the 49ers could be marching a skeleton crew out of the tunnel on Thursday.<\/p>\n

That will give the Rams an advantage, as they are healthier on both sides of the ball and are shaping up to be one of the best-balanced teams in the league. Sean McVay’s squad ranks 11th in offensive EPA per play<\/a> and eighth in defensive EPA per play<\/a> through the first month of the season.<\/p>\n

Puka Nacua<\/a> OVER 96.5 receiving yards (-115)<\/p>\n

Nacua has been elite to start the 2025 NFL season, as he currently leads the league in catches (42) and receiving yards (503). He has also typically performed well in “Thursday Night Football” games, averaging 122.3 receiving yards on Thursday over three career games.<\/p>\n

Nacua’s impressive Thursday night showings include a 97-yard outing against the 49ers last season. So, while the 49ers have allowed the seventh-fewest receiving yards to wide-outs this season, it’s still worth trusting Nacua. After all, the 49ers have not yet faced a receiver of his caliber this season.<\/p>\n

Christian McCaffrey<\/a> OVER 7.5 receptions (+110)<\/p>\n

The Rams have allowed a league-low 12 receptions to running backs this season, but they haven’t yet faced McCaffrey. The 49ers have heavily leaned on their running back in the passing game with Kittle (hamstring) and Aiyuk (knee) sidelined, and they could do the same with Pearsall (knee) and Jennings (rib\/ankle) facing questions about their availability.<\/p>\n

Only Nacua (50) has been targeted more than McCaffrey (43) this season. Expect the Rams to allow the 49ers to get the ball to the running back in the air often while Sean McVay’s squad looks to limit his ability after the catch.<\/p>\n

The Rams are allowing just 3.8 yards per reception to running backs, making McCaffrey’s reception total a better bet than his receiving total.<\/p>\n

Matthew Stafford<\/a> UNDER 238.5 passing yards (-115)<\/p>\n

Betting an under passing total and an over receiving total can be risky, but it’s probably the right move for this matchup.<\/p>\n

Why? The 49ers have allowed just 172.5 passing yards per game to opposing quarterbacks this season, good for the fifth-fewest in the NFL. The Rams may have an easier time running on the 49ers as a result, and if they build a lead on their bruised and battered counterparts, Los Angeles may not have to pass all that often to get a win.<\/p>\n

Either way, expect Sean McVay to bring a run-heavy game plan Thursday as he looks to unburden the 37-year-old Stafford during a short week.<\/p>\n

Jake Tonges<\/a> anytime TD scorer (+350)<\/p>\n

Aiyuk and Kittle aren’t playing on “TNF.” Pearsall might not be in action either, while Jennings was also dealing with multiple injuries on the short week. If that’s the case, who will the 49ers throw to in the red-zone?<\/p>\n

McCaffrey, who has a team-high eight red-zone targets, is one answer to that question, but Tonges could emerge as another. The veteran has performed well in place of Kittle and has logged two touchdowns on 16 targets over four games.
