Who will call offensive plays for the New York Giants<\/a> in 2025? Head coach Brian Daboll remains hesitant to answer that question.<\/p>\n

Throughout the team’s two-day rookie minicamp, assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka appeared to be in control of the communication and calling in the plays. If that’s an indicator of what’s to come, Daboll isn’t saying.<\/p>\n

“Good observation,” Daboll told reporters when asked about Kafka.<\/p>\n

And that was that. Daboll offered nothing else of substance as it relates to a play-caller.<\/p>\n

That’s par for the course with Daboll, who has been reluctant to name a play-caller until later in the preseason during each of his seasons as Giants head coach. It also falls in line with his current plan, which he outlined in early April<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Playcalling, we’ll make that decision as we go into the preseason and training camp,” Daboll said during the NFL owners’ meetings. “Whatever it is, once we get to that point, that I feel is going to be the best for the football team\u2026 whatever that ends up being, the end product, I’m going to probably do.”<\/p>\n

Daboll took over play-calling duties from Kafka in 2024 but yielded no better results. It was something even co-owner John Mara addressed during his season-ending press conference.<\/p>\n

“Maybe he makes some other changes in the way he operates going forward. I talked to him about, ‘Do you really believe that it’s in our best interest for you to continue calling the plays?’ I said, ‘I’m not going to demand that you do one thing or the other. But are you better off letting somebody else call the plays?’ That’s a discussion that we’re going to continue to have,” Mara said.<\/p>\n

In the coming weeks and months, Daboll is likely to be asked about the play-calling duties several times. Fans should expect similar non-answers until Week 1 of the regular season is firmly on the horizon.<\/p>\n
