No team took a bigger jump to championship contention last season than the Washington Commanders. After a four-win season in 2023, the organization rebuilt the roster from the top down and improved its win total by nine games in 2024.<\/p>\n
As the organization prepares for an encore of that historical turnaround, merely being a playoff contender won’t cut it anymore for the Commanders. They have a phenom at quarterback, and a coaching staff that is returning almost all of their personnel for the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

Playoff contention is nice. Championship contention has to be the goal, though.<\/p>\n
With the Philadelphia Eagles winning the Super Bowl last season, the Commanders know they are in a division with the league’s best roster. If they can close the gap there, they can firmly supplant the Eagles as the league’s best roster moving forward.<\/p>\n
And that’s the argument that CBS Sports is making.<\/p>\n
