SALT LAKE CITY \u2013 Former\u00a0BYU<\/a> quarterback Zach Wilson<\/a> will enter his fifth season with his third NFL team in 2025.<\/p>\n

The Miami Dolphins signed Wilson to a one-year deal in March. The question now: Will he see the field at any point this season?<\/p>\n

After spending a year as the third-string quarterback in Denver under Sean Payton, Wilson is moving from the Rockies to South Beach.<\/p>\n

Payton was candid about Wilson\u2019s role from the beginning, saying last preseason that the young QB was in Denver to grow both on and off the field \u2014 with no expectations of playing time.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn an overall basis,\u00a0\u200bit just seems like he\u2019s probably in need of some kind of longer-term football rehab to kind of get back on track,\u201d Payton shared. \u201c\u200bI\u00a0\u200bthink\u00a0\u200bthere\u2019s some\u00a0\u200bdistance between\u00a0\u200bthose\u00a0\u200bother\u00a0\u200btwo\u00a0\u200bquarterbacks\u00a0\u200band\u00a0\u200bZach\u00a0\u200bWilson,\u00a0\u200bbased\u00a0\u200bon\u00a0\u200bwhat\u00a0\u200bI\u2019ve\u00a0\u200bseen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, after a season to reset, can Wilson impress in Miami \u2014 or at least earn snaps? There is no clear answer to either of those questions.<\/p>\n

Tua Tagovailoa is the projected starter, and the team used the No. 231 overall pick to select Texas standout QB Quinn Ewers.<\/p>\n

If Tagovailoa misses time due to injury or trade, Miami could choose to throw Ewers into the fire rather than turn to Wilson. Since the Dolphins picked up Wilson a couple of months ago, there has been radio silence from Mike McDaniel and the Dolphins front office.<\/p>\n

Quarterback conversations will likely pick up in training camps and preseason. Expect both Wilson and Ewers to get looks before week one.<\/p>\n

About Zach Wilson<\/p>\n

Before his time in the NFL, the Corner Canyon High School product had a standout career at BYU. Wilson helped the Cougars to an 11-1 record during his final season in Provo.<\/p>\n

Following his college career, the Jets selected Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

The Corner Canyon product entered his rookie season as the Jets\u2019 starting quarterback. Wilson experienced multiple knee injuries that caused him to miss significant time during his first two seasons.<\/p>\n

He entered the 2023 season as Aaron Rodger\u2019s backup. However, Rodgers went down with a season-ending injury a few plays into New York\u2019s first game. Wilson was thrust back into the starting lineup for a team that showed the same flaws from past seasons.<\/p>\n

Late in 2023, Wilson was benched for the third time in his career. He returned to the field a couple of weeks later after the Jets found no success with their other quarterbacks. Wilson suffered a concussion the following week and didn\u2019t play for the remainder of the regular season. The former BYU star missed New York\u2019s final three games and the Jets finished with a 7-10 record, missing the playoffs for a 13th straight year.<\/p>\n

In his third season, Wilson threw for 2,271 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions with a completion percentage of 60.1. He also ran for 211 yards.<\/p>\n

After spending the 2024 season as a backup in Denver, the Miami Dolphins signed the former Cougar on March 10, 2025.<\/p>\n
